With Just 18 Summers by Rene Gutteridge and Michelle Cox, Tyndale House Publishing, ISBN-10: 1414386591,ISBN-13: 978-1414386591.
Gutteridge and Cox have put together an epistle that all parents, and children, should read. The story envelopes the lives of four different families at different stages in life with their children. There is Butch, who just lost his wife , Jenny, in a tragic way. Now, he is a single dad. There are the O'Reillys who are going to be parents for the first time. The Andersons are looking forward to becoming empty nesters. The Buckleys are giving the kids everything they ask for.
The writers take each family through a summer, and with the summer, lessons are learned, heartache is felt, joy is found and then it is over.
The stories are beautifully intertwined with the moral lesson - don't forget to make some memories with your children - you have got them for 18 summers.
As an aunt, who has never had children, the story hit home for me as I realized when my nephews and nieces hit 10 or11, they began to change, and I was not the cool aunt anymore. Now, I barely know them. I think about wasted moments, and reflected as I read each story presented in this book. What if I had? Why hadn't I done?
Pick up a copy of With Just 18 Summers, and read it, then share it with your child or children.
Such a good read.
