I finished this book with a resounding WOW! What an excellent book. I cannot stop talking about this book. This is my first book by Diana Wallis Taylor and I have to say I am impressed. I must not have been paying much attention when I read the preview of the book because I was almost done the book before I realized that this story was about the woman at the well. My hat goes off to Diana for telling her story in a way I would never have thought about. Always when I have read the account of Jesus meeting her at the well and telling her that she has had five husband and was now with one that was not her husband, I have to admit that I was judgemental about her character thinking that she was an immoral woman. What an eye opener to know that there might have been circumstances beyond her control because of the era she lived that led to her being in that positon. I I loved the fact the Diana told the story starting with her life as a young girl. I am at heart a hopeless romantic so I was delighted when she experienced love. What I especially liked was the fact that Diana took other stories from the new testament and incorporated them into the story lines in ways that I would never have imagined. Diana truly is a talented author to have done that. I believe that every christian woman should read this story. They will truly be blessed. I have also purchased Martha and Mary Magdalene and cannot wait to begin reading them. This book is truly the top of the chart in my humble opinion.
What a refreshing look at the biblical story of Jesus who meets the Samarian woman at the well. I have read this bible story numerous times, but I have never really thought about the woman's story, I just sort of skipped right to the teaching of Jesus. But the author has stopped and has taken a deeper look at verse 18 where Jesus tells the woman "she has had five husbands." This is where this story starts.
The author takes us through Marah's life starting at the age of 13 when she is married to a man that is old enough to be her father. But the age of twenty five she has been married five different times and each husband has either died or left her. This is when she meets the most important man she will ever meet, Jesus, the Son of God.
It was fascinating how well-crafted this story was, with characters that were believable and a story line that will hold the reader's attention. I found this story both engaging and encouraging. It reminds us that Jesus will met us just at the right time and that no matter what our past, He will always love us.
I know I will be recommending this book every chance I get.
This is a wonderful book. The story was so wonderful, it had me on the edge of my seat clutching the corner of the page so I could turn it and read some more! I really recommend this book for women who feel that they'll never get married or have a family or find that one person they'll spend their life with. This really teaches you some things.
Journey to the Well presents an intriging intersection of several well loverd new testament stories. The harshness of life in new teastment Samaria and the struggles for women during that time is vivid and compelling. Given society's views of women at the time, it makes me value even more what Christ has done for me.
