I am Val Bowera daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. I gave birth to three beautiful children and later adopted two more; I also have four stepchildren. I have spent the majority of my adult life working with people who need some kind of help.
Usually a little bit of stress is a good motivator for me. But when you hear the word cancer and the doctor is talking about your child, your mind does not know what to do. When the next doctor tells you he has two weeksor maybe a monthto live, you pray.
Someone once told me that I didnt have enough faith. I was taught to pray, Gods will be done. I said that prayer for months and then added, God give me strength to face the future. I kept a journal of the days and weeks of struggles and hardships, based on this moms feelings. I have no intention of causing pain or anger to anyone; it is all based on my opinion.
My wish is that after reading this, parents will hold their babies more often. Sisters and brothers will say I love you and mean it. I wish for families to realize that tomorrow may not come. Every day should have a memory to hang on to.

Tell us a little about yourself. I am a working mom, with children and grandchildren. I live in a small community close to my family. My husband and I are now raising our granddaughter, and every day is interesting in it's own way
What was your motivation behind this project? When my son was diagnosed with cancer I wanted to keep a journal, always hoping that one day I could share it with him. I never got the chance, later his sisters encouraged me to share our story
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope people will see that families may seem "fine" on the outside, but inside our lives may be falling apart. Everyday people should have a memory. Sometimes the things we feel are important, may not be what we need to focus on.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Memories and tears became a part of My Journal. For the first time I realized the poem I had written during my pregnancy with Jeremy, was really about him.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My daughters Sheena and Kayla were my biggest supports. When Jeremy was sick we all read the book "Heaven is for real" it was such an inspiration to our entire family.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I am in awe how this book has been able to help so many people deal with grief even from years ago. When someone shares that they couldn't put the book down, or how they cried, my thought is always.... God gave me the inspiration and words!
