Joshua's Mission is a new standalone novel in the Plain and Simple Miracles collection from popular author Vannetta Chapman. These stories of love and family and Amish community in Oklahoma tell of the miracles that can happen when lives are lived in service to God and to one another.
Joshua Kline travels from his farm in Oklahoma to offer aid to an Englisch town on the gulf coast of Texas after a category 4 hurricane has ravaged the area. He brings his brother with him, who needs a change of environment. The last thing he wants for Alton is another brush with the law. He is pleasantly surprised when he hears that Becca Troyer, the bishop's granddaughter, plans on joining their team.
What will Joshua find when he arrives in Texas? A lack of electricity, certainly, which poses little problem for the Amish volunteers as they help restore order from destruction. But a budding romance? A call from God? And a possible healing of his relationship with Alton?
Joshua's Mission is a story of love, forgiveness, and the grace of God that carries us through even the worst situations.

"Is it too audacious for a mere reader, even one who has read nearly every Vannetta Chapman release, to declare Joshua's Mission her 'best ever?' It is wunderbaar gut, for sure and certain."
Alan Daugherty, weekly columnist in The News-Banner
"Joshua's Mission is hands down a must read book! Vannetta Chapman is a masterful storyteller who has developed such genuine characters I immediately became emotionally attached to them."
"Joshua's Mission is a story that captivates the reader with the first page. Life can be totally changed by a weather event and yet can bring people from different areas together for good. I learned a lot about the destruction that hurricanes can bring and also, was reminded that God has a plan for each of us. This is an excellent story."
"Joshua's Mission is an excellent read you won't want to miss."
"Cracking the spine of a new Vannetta Chapman book is always a pleasure and an adventure. Joshua's Mission was no exception. I grew up in a North Carolina coastal city and we had some devastating hurricanes. Until you've experienced the massive destruction these huge and ferocious storms vent, you cannot truly comprehend them. Chapman has written a revealing and realistic description of a hurricane impacting a beach community and the people who live there.
"This is a highly recommended book that you can offer early teens through grandma to read and feel comfortable about sharing with them. And I think you'll love Charlie's dog, Quitz."
"I absolutely could not put this book down... This is a wonderful story of love, faith, hope and service."
"I have to be honest - I have enjoyed ALL of Chapman's books. She has a gentle style that's just plain likeable. And this book was no exception."

He was drinking and hanging around with the wrong crowd. Joshua had to get him out of trouble more than once.
Hurricane Orion blasted the Gulf Coast of Texas. Seven months after that horrible disaster Joshua and Alton Klein, the bishops granddaughter, Becca Troyer, her aunt Nancy Troyer, and Sarah Yoder boarded a bus for Texas. They were headed to Port Aransas to help those that had survived the hurricane rebuild their homes.
There were several relief groups in Port A and they all pitched in and worked together, worshiped together, and enjoyed their free time together. Joshua never seemed to stop worrying about what Alton was getting into.
Did a message he heard at one of the services finally free him from his self-imposed burden of being his brothers keeper? Did he change his attitude toward his little brother? What was Joshuas mission exactly? His brother or Port A?
Read about Joshua, Alton, Becca & Sarah in this well written novel by one of my favorite authors.youll be glad you did!

Cody's Creek, Oklahoma....Joshua Kline is leaving for a mission trip with the MDSMennonite Disaster Services (see author's notes in back of book)offering aid to an English town on the gulf coast of Texas after Hurricane Orion, a category 4 hurricane, ravaged it. He is taking his brother, Alton, along to keep a close eye on him and keep him out of more trouble with the law. Perhaps though, Alton will become part of his mission while in Texas. The bishop's granddaughter, Becca Troyer, Sarah and Nancy from his community are joining the team as well.
Port Aranas (or Port A as it is called by the locals), Texas.....elderly Charlie Everman and his dog, Quitz (I like how he chose the dog's name), is working hard helping his friends and neighborsputting his owns needs lastbuilding back their beloved town after such a devastating hurricane that completely destroyed it.
The story smoothly goes back and forth between Oklahoma and Texas. I like how the Amish and Englisher's (as the Amish call non-Amish) work together in rebuilding the town despite their different cultures. Charlie was one of my favorite characters. I loved his heart for others, compassion and caring for his friends and neighbors. The descriptions of the intensity of the hurricane and Charlie's experience during the storm was so breathtakingly vivid I felt as though I was right there with him during the whole storm. The aftereffects of the storm are described in such a way I could envision it as I read along. Joshua and Becca were two more of my favorite characters and I loved how their relationship changed and grew as they gave of themselves to others. There are many secondary characters that captured my heart as well. This is an amazing story of loss, devastation, struggles, heartache, hope in the midst of destruction, forgiveness, compassion, love, faith, God's grace and a community coming together to rebuild with the help of Amish mission workers and MDS. Parts of the story had me holding my breath, on the edge of my seat, in tears and laughing. Fantastic book.
~I received a copy of this book from author and the publisher, this is my honest review~
ConnieRMEAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5What is family?March 31, 2016ConnieRMEAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5"Joshua's Mission" is a wonderful story that expands my vision of family ties and reinforces the feeling we all have that sometimes "family" becomes more than blood ties. It's about community in the best possible way. There is also a subtle reminder for us that it's wrong to judge without knowing all the facts. I myself am too often guilty of judging someone by what I see physically. It's best to take an "as you are" approach until we get to know a person beyond the superficial appearance.
Chapman is one of my favorite authors, and I recommend this book. Perfect for someone who doesn't necessarily want a three or four book series, but be forewarned that once you read a story by this author, you will want more!

Vannetta Chapman is a gifted storyteller, bringing to life a captivating story of love, faith, and forgiveness.
I delighted in the uniqueness of the story line and the weaving together of two very different groups of people. Merging a Texas Gulf Coast community with residents from an Amish community in Oklahoma, Chapman shines a light on the Mennonite Disaster Service and the wonderful work they do. The emotional and spiritual journeys shared in this story are inspiring, and the relationships that develop are tender and touching.
I loved Joshuas Mission and cant wait for more stories in the Plain and Simple Miracles series!
