This book captivated me from the beginning. Love being drawn into how the author built a believable scenario. I just realized that this is a movie also and will see it to see the differences. I was not bothered by any of the theology as it is a fictional/modern day parable as it states. You want the real thing - read the real thing - His word stands strong and this is a great book to interest younger readers into seeing what the Word of God is and has.

Most people admit that movies based on books hardly ever live up to the printed version. I liked the movie and wanted to read the book afterwards. Found it on a friend's bookshelf and borrowed it. It was uplifting and enjoyable in much the same way as the movie, although there were differences. It is a perfect summer read.

I've heard criticism about the theology behind the book, but feel like if that is your big thing, stick to commentaries rather than fictional stories. This was enjoyable, and above anything made me think about what Jesus' real, man-on-the-street personality must have been like. If your journey of faith has become simply a series of rules to follow instead of relationships to build, this book should reorient you.

I did not realize that this was the first of a long series, and am now browsing through the other titles, wondering which to consider next. Interesting to learn that the author lives very close to me as well.

I liked this, and found no threats or offense to my faith here, for those who worry about such things, and would recommend it to friends.
