Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  Tall, dark and handsome. Nah, actually I'm short, light and homely. Raised near swamp frogs in SW lower MI, began drawing on the walls in the womb. Went to William Tyndale College in the Detroit area and majored in the minor prophets. As a freelancer, my business also majors in minor profits. Became a spiritual organ donor when at the age of five, I gave my heart to Jesus. Son of a pastor/truck driver and artist. Began as a performance artist at age 3 after rolling in mud and began drawing flies. Have a wife(who I met on a blind date), have two sons a red-haired baby daughter and no hair of my own.

What was your motivation behind this project?  To make people laugh their heads off ... uh ... wait a minute ... that isn't healthy. To promote laughter as therapy and lighten the load for those who are heavy hearted or sick in the head, like me.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  Not weight. Laughter actually burns calories ... which is cool. Relief from a sad, mad, bad world. Egad.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  My tooth was personally impacted. Otherwise, I doodled and giggled, which - when done simultaneously - can make for quite a mess. I was underwritten by my HMO - my humor maintenance organization (my kids). Why they were under writing me is beyond me.(They're small, I guess.)

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  My favorite writer is Bob Phillips (he paid me very little to say that). I'm greatly influenced by Walt Disney, Steven Wright, Schulz, Larson, Tom Cheney, Van Scott, Al Batt, Rex May, Voijtko, Sieron, Philip Yancey, Max Lucado, Mitch Albom, G.K. Chesterton and my Mom.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Every day of my life I thank my Lord for allowing me to be a Christ follower, a dad and a cartoonist. What a life. I've been selling cartoons since 1986, and each time one makes it in print - be it alone in a square in a newsletter or magazine, in one of my page-a-day calendars or in a book collection - I'm amazed, in awe, am humbled and break into fits of peptic euphoria.
