As a homeschooling mother teaching my 12 year old son about the Roman Empire, I decided to give this book a read aloud so he could experience John's story as well as the culture Christianity grew up in. It was well worth the read. My son did Legos while I read it aloud before bedtime. He listened intently to the story, and we talked about the Roman culture brought out in the book, as well as the Apostle John and the stories insights of what he must have lived through. As usual, Jenkins brings the story to life quite realistically, and yet weaves a tread of fiction into the facts without leaving out the word of God and it's truth. The book made a great unit study on Roman culture, the city of Ephesus and Emperor Nero as well.
