Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I am a licensed professional counselor. In the past I have been a Montessori preschool teacher, a learning disability teacher, an elder abuse investigator, and an addiction counselor. My husband and I have been married for forty- two years. We have four adult children and seven grand children. I get my inspiration for my Christian poetry during my prayer time.

What was your motivation behind this project?  These poems were written in a time of post-traumatic stress. My husband had throat cancer. He underwent four years of treatment and seven surgeries to save his voice and, at times, his life. Afterward , his trauma created a time of great stress for both of us. I developed serious symptoms as well. We walked through our recovery time together under God's loving care.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope folks will be encouraged to turn to God in times of great stress and realize they need to get through the wind, earthquake, and fire of their circumstances and emotions to reach a point of stillness where they can hear God's voice. Finding their place of rest is the key to hearing His voice.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  During post-traumatic stress issues of our past frequently come up to the surface of our consciousness and our faith in God is challenged and stretched. These prayerful poems were the way I dealt with my feelings and experiences. God's mighty power was made manifest in these difficult times.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  My Christian parents most profoundly effected my faith. They were an example of trusting God in everything and living under His care. I have had many wonderful pastors over the years. Their effective teaching sustained and matures me as a Christian. My family have all encircled me with their love and my students and clients have taught me so much. I thank my heavenly Father, Jesus, my brother, and the indwelling Holy Spirit for using me to spread His message.
