Lulu5 Stars Out Of 5Worthwhile studyDecember 5, 2021LuluWe are finishing the study this week and while it is a book only study (no DVD) Dee has short video lessons and testimonies each week to go along with each lesson on her website and each week she suggests listening to specific sermons or songs or interviews which add so much to the depth of each lesson. I really grew and learned alot....it is geared more toward ladies, but we had a couple men join us and all of us gained new perspectives of our big God and how he loves and guides and protects us. Overall it is a great 13 week study of Jesus in the Old Testament in Genesis, Psalms and Isaiah.

The Jesus Who Surprises: Opening Our Eyes to His Presence in All of Life and Scripture shows these mentions. From the first book of Genesis through the last book Malachi there are mentions of our Messiah woven through out. Some of them are more obvious than others however he is still there.
This book is written for a Bible Study group or for individual study. For Bible group leaders they even include a nice ice-breaker activity.
Each chapter also includes the authors testimonies. I like the way that the author is able to build on the prophesies of Jesus with her own stories. I came away with a lot from this book and I recommend it to leaders of Bible studies or persons who are interested in building on their knowledge of the Bible.
I was given this book by the publisher in exchange for my honest review. -
NicholasV5 Stars Out Of 5Jesus is everywhere in the Bible if you look for HimDecember 2, 2019NicholasVQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4Dee Brestin writes a great book that is not directly geared to women only. She effectively shows through several incidents in the Old Testament how Jesus is foreshadowed and modeled throughout the Bible. This makes Jesus even more real and accessible
The book also is designed to be used in group studies or individual study to go on "God hunts" through the week so that the readers become more aware of God's presence and the little and big ways in which He becomes active in the lives of His xhildreb. Highly recommended!!! -
rkfall5 Stars Out Of 5Pick this one!!October 9, 2019rkfallQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Jesus Who Surprises book by Dee Brestin was a God-send. This author is so transparent, refreshing, and full of Truth. I was really drawn to her words. She breaks the end of each chapter into a 5-day Bible Study and optional on-line sermon suggestions. I loved her "Today I spied God when..." journal prompts. So important to pay attention to His movements within and without. And stopping to reflect on them. I loved this from the book, "prayer is not getting God to give you what you want but dialoguing with Him, listening to Him, submitting to Him, and asking Him to give you what He wants, even if it is costly." I highly recommend this one.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. -
ReviewsByErin4 Stars Out Of 5Seeing JesusAugust 31, 2019ReviewsByErinQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Jesus Who Surprises is a look at all the ways our Savior shows up throughout the Old Testament. He's there from Genesis all the way through Malachi, sometimes more clear than others. Each chapter of this book ends with week-long Bible study activities for either individual or group use, and desires to promote the habit of seeing Jesus at work in our everyday lives as well as in the words of Scripture.
I appreciated the healthy dose of personal testimonies scattered throughout the chapters. It can be so faith-building to hear of God's working in the lives of others and know He desires to work on our behalf in similar mighty ways. We can never know how God will come through for us, but He has gone to great lengths to rescue us and have a relationship with usHe delights in walking with us through the ups and downs of life.
Some things from Scripture came to life in new ways for me in this book, and I got a lot from Dee's life story as well. I would recommend this for those looking for a Bible study or needing a reminder of how God is always at work even when we cannot see Him.
I received my copy of the book from the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
