AR ReidBaltimore, MDAge: 45-54Gender: Male1 Stars Out Of 5Wow, what a disapointmentJanuary 1, 2015AR ReidBaltimore, MDAge: 45-54Gender: MaleQuality: 4Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1My sister went to the City Church in Seattle Washington where Judah Smith took over as Senior Pastor after his father passed away a few years ago. Fortunately, for her sake, she no longer attends. And from the theologically reckless handling of the person and work of Jesus Christ within the pages of this book, I can see why her and her family chose to leave.
Judah was the youth pastor at the City Church for many years and his immature handling of the biblical text shows that he was ill prepared to take on the enormous responsibilities of his new position. In my opinion, Judah could have benefited from taking, at least, a couple of theology courses before stepping in as the Senior Pastor of such a large and influential congregation. His utter lack of understanding of the person and work of Jesus Christ is both embarrassing and dangerous. It is embarrassing because it throws open the door for intelligent non-Christians to mock this influential pastor's understanding of the Lord Jesus Christ (c.f., 2Sam 12:14). It is dangerous because Judah has such a persuasive platform from which to speak to the thousands of souls at the City Church who respect this young man and hang on his every word as if what they were hearing (or reading) was biblical truth. However, nothing could be further from the truth. This book is an absolute theological disaster.
I am aware that theology is out of vogue in our day and that those who are repulsed by anything theological will probably find my comments abrasive. However, as I see it, only a correct understanding of theology can cause someone who reads 'Jesus Is' to see it for what it is--just another easy way to make money off of biblically and theologically illiterate people. This book brings reproach upon the incalculable sacrifice of our heavenly Father in sending Jesus into this world to save his people from their sins. I agree with most of what the other one star reviewer wrote, except that I do not think he took his criticism of Judah's abysmal Christology far enough.

I knew that he was my friend and all that but I never really understood what it all means or should mean to me. It has definitely helped me in my walk with God. Definitely recommend it to everyone.
