Daily devotionals are things we read and reflect on and we need to pray about what we have learned. So it is important to spend some time thinking about how the daily message applies to one's own life.

That said, I found the gentle reminders that Keller writes for each day have been helpful in regaining my focus as a Christian. He tries to convey a New Testament understanding of these Psalms. Since some of the Psalms ask God to take vengeance on the evildoers, a New Testament understanding is a very important perspective to look to on how we should view and understand these passages. It is not a full bible commentary, but it is enough to help gain perspective for the day and over time, it appears to even help bring healing of the spirit.

This little leather looking volume takes you through the entire book of Psalms, line by line. It adds a devotional style commentary and prayer each day after the psalm or part of a psalm. I am not a devotional person but I wanted to go through the Psalms and connect with them. There is so much more in the Psalms than the lovely sentences I hear quoted all the time, and I never really understood them as a whole. This has just been excellent, right from the beginning in the intro.

This is an excellent book for your daily devotions! It has a degree of depth from the usual devotional book, but simple enough for the layperson to comprehend and put in practice what he / she has gleaned. Psalms is the book of Jewish praise and worship, the hymn book of the Bible. This book will precipitate growth in your spiritual life and teach you much about true praise and worship. CBD has a great price on it.

I am so excited to be reading this book along with the Psalms. I have been singing choral settings of the Psalms all my life but I have no memory for numbers and I couldn't tell you which number goes with which Psalm and I've missed a bunch of the less popular Psalms in between. It's a problem. I determined I needed more study time in the Psalms so I bought this book and I'm so glad I did. Nerd alert: I even took things a step further and am singing settings of each Psalm out of my collection of hymnals as I go through the Psalms. I am so thankful. This book is really really helping me to understand some of the concepts and imagery I am encountering as I go.

I wanted a devotional that would present me with a starting place for prayer, thought, and worship. And here it is! Psalms leads me in a very personal way to relate to the Lord intimately. Not too much commentary by the author, but enough to invite reflection and encourage prayer.
