GHott5 Stars Out Of 5This elegant book is one Ill not only use, but also purchase as a gift!!March 20, 2018GHottQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I'm so glad I chose the Jesus Calling Adult Coloring Book as my first experience, though I'm now not sure others will measure up to the experience I had with this wonderful book.
I've not read, nor had I ever heard of, the Jesus Calling series so hearing that there were quotes from the book meant little to me, however, I was excited to know this could be a part of my devotional experience. Taking time to reflect on God's word and love for us is sometimes difficult because my mind is always racing, however, I found with these beautiful pages and supurb designs I found myself relaxing into His love as I peacefully colored.
This elegant book is one I'll not only use, but also purchase as a gift for others who are looking to take a break and circumvent the rat race.

Not only does it work to allow us to creatively colour but it helps with learning how to hand letter. I even tried my hand at lettering while colouring through it. First, I started by tracing what was already on a page then after the first two words I started to get the hang of it and free handed the rest of what I wanted it to say. I think this was a good call.
It's quite similar to the type of sketches that are inside journaling bibles although the difference much resides in the fact that because it is a Jesus Calling edition all of the quotes are not straight from the Bible and are sayings of Sarah Young.

The Consulting WriterAge: 35-44Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Encouragement We Can All Benefit FromMarch 12, 2018The Consulting WriterAge: 35-44Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I love to sketch and color. It's really relaxing and allows my brain to dump my worries to the side and just focus on the art. That's the idea behind adult coloring books. From the series, Jesus Calling, comes the coloring book in the same vein, with encouraging words and verses throughout. These aren't simple coloring pages that one might find in a children's coloring book. They are intricate and beautiful on their own, devoid of color, but I can imagine how gorgeous they'd look when full of color. The pages are filled with flora or fauna. The cover is really attractive with metallic blue highlights. The book is 10 x 10" size. The font is large enough for most readers and the coloring shouldn't be too difficult for most. The back page is a hand lettering practice page. If you aren't a fan of journalling in your Bible, but like the colorful ideas behind it, this would be the next best option.
To color with marker or colored pencil? That's the question. The pages feel thick enough, but on trying it, Sharpies definitely bleed through and standard markers come close (you can see a hint of the color but it hasn't actually gone through). I'd recommend using high quality colored pencils and perhaps place card stock or a piece of cardboard between pages as you're coloring in order to ensure the other pages remain clean until you're ready to color them.
This book normally retails for $20, but is being sold on most websites for $10. I think this would make a nice gift for anyone, family or friends, believers and nonbelievers alike. Sure, it has Bible verses, but it also has some encouragement. We can all benefit from that these days, right? I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Elise4 Stars Out Of 5Lovely!January 30, 2017EliseQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4This is based off of Sarah Young's immensely popular devotional called Jesus Calling, one of my favorite devotionals. Knowing know much the devotional itself has impacted my life, I was quite excited to get my hands on a copy of this new coloring book. I'm not sure what I think about this coloring book. On one hand I think the colorable pictures are adorable and the traceable templates for hand lettering are lovely. On the other hand, I expected the coloring book to be filled with select readings from the Jesus Calling devotional. Instead, there were one or two sentence quotes, sometimes even just phrases, taken from the devotional and placed in the coloring book to be either colored around or hand lettered. I was simply expecting something different than what this coloring book actually is. That's not the coloring book's fault though.
All that to say, as far as adult coloring books go, this is a nice one! The size is large and there are about 100 pages to color. The designs are varied and fun to color. I liked how there's a guided tutorial and templates for learning hand lettering spread throughout the book, which is unique. For someone who isn't good at hand lettering, that was fun to try! If you're looking for a new coloring book that helps focus your day on God, this would be a good option for you! Just know that the pages don't have a daily reading or any kind on them and be confused like I was.

WordmachineGrayson, GAAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Inspires while coloring!January 25, 2017WordmachineGrayson, GAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is an interesting coloring book that brings together quotes from the Bible and from the "Jesus Calling" devotional. As you color the detailed drawings of animals, flowers, water, church, designs, any other kinds of drawings, you will have the opportunity to be encouraged through Bible verses and inspirational messages. There are also ways to learn hand lettering, such as at the back of the book there is a page you can trace upper and lowercase lettering, and with the lettering of the Bible verses and messages given throughout the book, they use different kinds of lettering along with normal black lettering that is already filled in. The pages with lettering are on the opposite side of the drawings; some of the lettering pages contain drawings with the lettering also (on the top and/or bottom for instance).
This coloring book contains illustrations that can be used with many different colors, depending on how much color one can imagine in the illustrations. I colored flowers different colors (for instance on one of the flowers I colored the leaves one shade of purple and the inside of the flower a different shade of purple) and also with different shades of green (for the stems and leaves). Most of the illustrations are so detailed, such as with the illustrations of birds which are often so detailed that their beak, feet, wings, and feathers can all be colored different colors.
I used markers, gel pens, water soluble colored pencils and regular colored pencils in this coloring book. The markers bled through some of the drawing I used them on a little bit (the paper seems pretty thick to me). The gel pens didn't bleed through any of the paper that I noticed. The water soluble colored pencils glided on smoother than the regular colored pencils and in my opinion were easier to color with (didn't take me as long to color with). I am happy with the way that all coloring utensils worked on the drawings and paper in this coloring book!
This book would be great to be given as a gift. There is a page where someone can fill in "To", "From", and the "Date" it is given.
