A Book So Beautiful It's Deceiving
    May 12, 2019
    Skeptical
This is indeed a gorgeous book with many beautiful thoughts in its pages. I would deeply love to present it to my children. But there are odd inconsistencies in the stories. For example, Jacob is said to have only two wives, apparently one of Joseph's faults was that he was a tattletale, Pharaoh asked his cupbearer to interpret his dream, the reason that Joseph could eventually forgive his brothers was because they had changed, Mordecai was a Jewish leader before Esther became queen, and so on. But even this, strange as it is, is not the most disturbing part because after each story there is a related Scripture followed by a devotional spoken as if by Jesus himself - which is odd if you consider that God did indeed inspire the verses printed just ahead of the devotional section. Those verses are His real words and yet they are not the main thought that children will be pointed to. It is as if Scripture is not enough, and so I tremble to read this to children who will be enamored with the gorgeous pictures and taken with the simplistic messages of love and acceptance that are supposedly spoken by Jesus that the deeper, more nuanced meanings of the actual word of God will be glossed over in a sea of self-affirmation (the opposite of glorifying God). I am reminded yet again that even for little ones, the best we can do is read to them from the actual pages of the Bible - talk about it, explain it, teach from it. But don't be seduced by the bells and whistles of a prettier publication that strays, however little, from the truth.

I have been reading this book to my kids 5,7, and 8. We have read different Bible story books, and this is probably my favorite. It would also make a great gift for grandchildren or families with little ones.

This Storybook Bible was purchased for my 4 and 5 year old boys. All family members love to read this book at bedtime. The boys love to use the little ribbon to mark our way through the book. This book makes the Bible stories come alive for parents and children alike. I'm sure we will be reading this for years and years to come. The Jesus calling sections at the end help to make the stories intimate and point to the good news of Jesus.

I wish I had researched this book before I ordered it. I discovered that it is new age. I was very disappointed in this book and put in in the trash.

I have Sarah Young's Jesus Calling devotional and love it. This children's storybook is as wonderful as I thought it would be. It is well written and Biblically accurate. Sarah Young is so faithful to let the Holy Spirit teach through her books. You will love it.
