This review was written for Jesus as Torah in John 1-12.
The concept of Jesus as Torah in the Gospel of John was something quite new to me, but after reading this work by Lioy, I have come to appreciate more fully this concept.Jesus is the "Word", the living embodiment of God's revelation. He is God incarnate and reveals to us the Father in a culminating and climaxing fashion in comparison to the Torah. Lioy finds significance in many of Jesus' acts against the backdrop of the festival calendar in Jewish life and how He was constantly showing Himself to be the true substance of what was celebrated, as prescribed in the Torah.I would commend this work to any who are studying through the Gospel of John, the life and ministry of Jesus, and Christology in general. It was helpful in my own preaching of John and was very beneficial to my understanding of the Jewish backdrop to Jesus' ministry, which is unfortunately an overlooked discipline within American Evangelicalism.
