In a world with so many religions, why Jesus?
We are living in a time when you can believe anything, as long as you do not claim it to be true. In the name of "tolerance," our postmodern culture embraces everything from Eastern mysticism to New Age spirituality. But as Ravi Zacharias points out, such unquestioning acceptance of all things spiritual is absurd. All religions, plainly and simply, cannot be true.
Jesus Among Other Gods provides the answers to the most fundamental claims about Christianity, such as:
- Arent all religions fundamentally the same?
- Was Jesus who He claimed to be?
- Can one study the life of Christ and demonstrate conclusively that He was and is the way, the truth, and the life?
In each chapter, Zacharias considers a unique claim that Jesus made and then contrasts the truth of Jesus with the founders of Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism with compelling insight and passionate conviction. In addition to an impressive breadth of reading and study, he shares his personal journey from despair and meaninglessness to his discovery that Jesus is who He said He is.
"In Jesus Among Other Gods, Ravi Zacharias demonstrates that he is one of the most intellectually gifted as well as spiritually sensitive writers of todays leading apologists for the Christian faith. Zacharias brings alive the unique power of the claims of Jesus about himself and the utter relevance of his message today for the human condition."
David Aikman, author of Great Souls

J. Luis Dizon5 Stars Out Of 5Where evangelism meets comparative religionSeptember 21, 2015J. Luis DizonQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5In a culture that is becoming increasingly pluralistic, and wherein numerous religious claims are vying for peoples acceptance with widely divergent truth claims, it is becoming more and more necessary for Christians to explain what it is exactly that makes Christianity different from the worlds religions, and why we ought to take Christianity's truth claims seriously.
Enter Ravi Zacharias Jesus Among Other Gods. Published over a decade ago, this book has become a classic in modern Christian apologetics, as it juxtaposes Christian beliefs with those of the other major religions of the world. Through the use of both reasoning and narratives taken from the Indian culture he grew up in, Zacharias presents reasons why people should heed the Christian message. He argues that one cannot hold to the pluralistic idea that all religions are equally valid, since they contradict each other and therefore would mean only one of them can be true. As he states:
Yet if the human spirit is to survive and every legitimate discipline to find fruitful expression, truth cannot be sacrificed at the altar of a pretended tolerance. All religions, plainly and simply, cannot be true. Some beliefs are false and we know them to be false. So it does no good to put a halo on the notion of tolerance as if everything could be equally true. To deem all beliefs equally true is sheer nonsense for the simple reason that to deny that statement would also, then, be true. But if the denial of the statement is also true, then all religions are not true (pg. 4).
Having argued for the exclusivity of religious truth claims, Zacharias then goes on to examine the major world religions (Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism), showing how they fail to answer the fundamental questions of life, and goes to show how Christ is who He claimed He wasthe way, the truth and the life and how only through the acceptance of these exclusive claims could we make sense of life and find salvation.
This is a good book to read for those who are wondering why they should accept Christianity over and against any other religion, as well as for those who are Christian and desire to know how to better communicate the truths of the Gospel to those of other faiths.
