All editions of Jefferson's modified Bible is an excellent read. Christianity would have done far better if this book were given more attention. It focuses on what many believe what Jesus wanted us all to focus on. His words, his teachings, not others. It's more in tune to what modern ears will appreciate.

First of all: Thomas Jefferson was a lifelong Christian; he was NEVER a deist. If you want to learn the truth, read his own original writings, not the heavily edited and intentionally misleading propaganda from atheist liberals who do not want him to be remembered as the Christian he was. His goal, as written in his own words, was to reduce the Bible down to the teachings of Jesus for use specifically in sharing the Bible with the north american Indians (who, obviously, had no western education). The reason was simple: if the entire text of the Bible were given to them, then they might only read Leviticus, or only the lineage portion, and then never truly understand the most important part and main purpose of the Bible: salvation through Jesus. His effort produced a work that made it possible to share the Bible with American Indians. Since then, liberals have created lies to push the agenda that he did this to eliminate the "magic" from the man who lived in Nazareth. Unfortunately, too many Americans are exceedingly lazy and choose to be lied to, and in turn, propagate these Jefferson lies. If you doubt this, then go to the source, read the man's own writings; not some liberal professor's drivel. Jefferson was a Christian. This book attests to his devotion of spreading the gospel to the natives. Any printed version that states or implies anything contrary to this is a lie.

I have the Smithsonian's version, which includes the history of this book. This is NOT the Bible or Gospel! He labeled himself a Christian incorrectly because he studied the moral teachings of Jesus, and he definitely wasn't an evangelical because he thought one's religions beliefs are to be kept private. He didn't believe in the triune God, and he thought parts of the Gospel weren't even accurate. Jefferson, in his 70s, carefully cut out what he thought was accurate about Jesus. He used 2 copies of the Bible of each of the four languages. On one page, there is a a small, red curly hair, sticking out from under the pages. This is an interesting piece of history and nothing more.
