Danika CooleyAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A Really Good Read!February 11, 2015Danika CooleyAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Jasmine is an incredibly well-written tale - one of those stories that makes me feel as though I truly know the characters. I found myself emotionally invested in the story early on, and I couldn't wait to turn the next page. It kept me WAY up past my bedtime!
Jasmine was a raw look at the life of a survivor. There was nothing syrupy-sweet about it (that's a huge plus in my book!). The story takes a number of unexpected turns that truly surprised me.
I look forward to purchasing any future books by April McGowan (I loved her book Macy as well). She's a born storyteller with a gift for words.

Just finished reading Jasmine, by April McGowan. This is a wonderful and revealing story about real life in homeless girls. Have read well over a hundred great Christian books during the past 5 years. This is one book that touched my emotions in such a way, found myself emotionally involved, had to calm down. This is a wonderful story, with a great ending, and so worth reading for sure. I appreciate my life more even with the hurts I lived through. They don't begin to compare to the girls' lives I just read about A very well written book.
Christine LindsayBritish Columbia, CanadaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Brilliant !!!February 4, 2015Christine LindsayBritish Columbia, CanadaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Jasmine by April McGowan is one of those brilliantly intelligent books that gets to your heart. As a person who grew up in a dysfunctional family I give the author two thumbs up for her understanding of the heart-ache that scars so many people. I knew this especially whil reading, when the main character of this novel, Jasmine, explained why she threw her bicycle over the bridge and into the water when she was a child. Because I remember that emotion. Also, as a true-life birthmom--a woman who relinquished a child to adoption--I applaud the author for her in-depth comprehension of the myriad of emotions that go into that kind of sacrifice.
Jasmine is a book to be read by so many--those who are hurting from abuse, sexual or any other kind. People who work with emotional scarred individuals will also love this book. But aside from being socially relevant, Jasmine is a really good story for its mystery, suspense, romance, and the redemption of lives and family.
Writing about sexual abuse, relinquishing one's baby, abortion, needing to escape to a homeless shelter are all tough issues, but to write about them in such a captivating manner deserves the highest accolades.
Bravo April McGowan for a brilliant debut novel.
June FosterWhere ever my RV is located.Age: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5JasmineJanuary 29, 2015June FosterWhere ever my RV is located.Age: Over 65Gender: femaleJasmine by April McGowan takes the reader for an emotional ride with unexpected twists and turns until the end. Through April's skill as an author, the reader obtains an in-depth look into the very heart of Jasmine Reynolds through a single point of view.
Jasmine, who bears the scars of sexual abuse brings help and hope to runaways, prostitutes, and desperate women and girls on the streets of Portland, Oregon, yet cannot offer herself the same healing.
When Jasmine returns to her childhood home of Bright River, she must face the ghosts of her past. To complicate her life even more, she meets up with her childhood friend, prominent lawyer, Tim Able. But can Jasmine allow herself to become vulnerable to another person again?
Jasmine's brother Bill and his family provide a loving and safe environment while she visits Bright River, yet another family member is not so accommodating. Layer after layer of secret lies surface straddling Jasmine with even more burden and pain.
April's expert understanding and portrayal of her character, Jasmine, is first-rate. Jasmine is a deep, poignant story which provides hope and help for any who've suffered from abuse.

Tell us a little about yourself. April McGowan loves to write healing fiction. She and her husband, two children, and her mews, Spookers, live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Her novel Jasmine was a finalist for the 2014 Carol Award for debut novel. April is a member of Oregon Christian Writers and American Christian Fiction Writers. When she's not writing, reading down her book list, homeschooling her two children, or playing board games, you might find her at her drum kit, imagining she's on a world tour. Hey, it could happen.
What was your motivation behind this project? I love writing Healing Fiction, books that dont just entertain, but connect on a deeper level with the brokenness we all live with and dont often talk about.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope people with gain an insight and empathy towards survivors of abuse and neglect. I also hope that though sharing Jasmine's story, others that might be hurting will be drawn back to God--that they know no matter what they've gone through, the Lord loves them and He's never left them nor forsaken them.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I gained a greater insight into what it is like to be a runaway on the streets in a big city today. Runaway children are often approached by those in the sex trafficking industry within 24 hours of ending up on the street. It's a frightening statistic. Doubly so because the child who has run away believes they are heading somewhere safer than they left. It's not usually the case.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Authors who influence my writing include Francine Rivers, Roseamunde Pilcher, L.M Montgomery and Anne Tyler.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: All my novels are filled with hope, restoration and healing through the Lord.
