Publisher's Description

Have you ever met a fisherman describing how that big fish got away? Have you ever tried to explain your way out of a situation you should not be in or know you shouldn't have done? Author Alan Portmann uses humor, imagination, and wit in Jared and Joshua's Whopper, telling the tale of two young brothers who exaggerate circumstances to a new level of storytelling to avoid the truth about why they were all wet to their momma. Their Homeric quest takes them on a journey across the lake, bravely confronting a huge snake, electric eel, and giant fish before returning to face Momma and the humorous truth which is overtly apparent at the end of Jared and Joshua's Whopper.

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.   I'M A QUALITY ENGINEER FOR A DEFENSE FIRM FOR 22 YEARS AND RECEIVED AN ELEMENTARY EDUCATION (k-9) DEGREE- SCI./MATH EMPHASIS FROM THE UNIV. OF MO.- KANSAS CITY IN 1984. I TEACH BENCHMARK LEARNING SKILL LABS FOR ALL AGES AS A VOLUNTEER IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS LOCALLY. I HAVE AN AWANNA'S CLASS ALSO AT CHURCH ON WEDNESDAYS.

What was your motivation behind this project?   I WANTED TO DO SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR THE CHILDREN I WORK WITH AND GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUMITY. I COLLECT ANTIQUES AND SHARE THEM WITH THE CHILDREN IN THE CLASSROOM LIKE OLD MONEY, CIVIL WAR RELICS/FOODS AND DINOSAUR FOSSILS. GAMES ARE USED EMPHASIZING BENCHMARK SKILL LIKE PATTERNS AND COMPARE/CONTRAST DEPENDING ON THE GRADE LEVEL.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?   THIS BOOK IS DESIGNED TO TEACH CHILDREN ABOUT BILL BENNET TYPE CHARACTER VALUES WITH A FOCUS ON HONESTY AND IS WRITTEN IN A DR. SUESS TYPE RHYME SCHEME FOR ENJOYABLE EASY READING. THE READING IS DESIGNED TO BUILD VOCABULARY SKILL FOR BENCHMARK LEARNING FROM 4-8TH GRADE.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  THIS BOOK IS DEDICATED TO 2 BROTHERS I'VE WORKED WITH IN 4-H WHO BOTH GOT A SIGNED COPY WITH PERSONALIZED INSCRIPTIONS. I REALLY ENJOY READING PARTICIPATORY CHILDREN'S BOOKS TO KIDS LIKE "THE BAG I'M TAKING TO GRANDMA'S HOUSE".

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:   I 'M A FIRM ADVOCATE OF MENTORING YOUTH AND BELIEVE THE OLD ADAGE, TEACHERS HAVE ALOT OF CLASS! GOD BLESS YOU!
