Many Christians are not quite sure what to do with the Old Testament. Common mistakes in reading it include fanciful allegory, unattached moralism, and allegorical moralism (combining the other two!). Yet the Old Testament is not just a collection of inspiring stories about people who triumphed, above all it is a message about Jesus Christ, especially his sufferings and the glories that would follow-that is, the gospel. The shape of the Old Testament shows us its incompleteness and points us to Christ either directly or through some of its major figures: Jesus is the new Adam, the new Israel, and the new David.
- Shows how the Old Testament is linked to the incarnation of Jesus
- Demonstrates both good and bad ways of discerning truth from Scripture
- Gives the reader a more holistic view of faith by connecting and enlarging our view of the Old Testament

Series: Basics of the Faith
Many Christians find the Old Testament to be a difficult book and ultimately ignore large parts of itoften because they simply are not sure what to do with it. Yet Iain Duguid maintains that the Old Testament is for Christians too. What is more, Christ is present throughout the Old Testamentin fact, when rightly interpreted, the whole book is about him. Duguid explores what it means to rightly see Christ in the Old Testament and looks at some specific ways the Old Testament prepares us to see and understand Christs ministry in the gospels.
Iain M. Duguid (PhD, University of Cambridge) is professor of Old Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He has written numerous works of biblical exposition, including Esther & Ruth in the Reformed Expository Commentary series, Ezekiel in the NIV Application Commentary series, and Numbers in the Preaching the Word series.
About the Series▼▲
Basics of the Faith booklets introduce readers to basic Reformed doctrine and practice. On issues of church government and practice they reflect that framework - otherwise they are suitable for all church situations.
If reading the first two-thirds of your Bible feels like wandering through a foreign country, Iain Duguid's "Is Jesus in the Old Testament?" offers hope. Not only does he demonstrate that the Old Testament is all about Jesus. He shows how the ancient scriptures' promises and longings find fulfillment in your Savior as the new Adam, new Israel, and new David. This booklet will enrich your appreciation of the events and words by which God forecasted Christ's redemptive mission before his arrival, and will deepen your faith and wonder.

Michael1 Stars Out Of 5Dissapointed!September 1, 2017MichaelQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 1Is Jesus in the Old Testament? He is, but not shown in this 34 page booklet! I was hoping for examples. Instead I got information I already knew. Jesus being the new Adam. The family tree from Abraham to Jesus. Comparing Jesus in the desert for 40 days to the Israelis. Etc.
For 5$ I can't complain. But I would rather have put it towards something that in fact showed Jesus in the Old testament. Save your money. I wouldn't recommend this!
