Proverbs says "faithful are the wounds of a friend." This book was written by someone who has found the Bible to be a true friend indeed.

The author draws on her earnest examination of scripture, academic study, and her unique experiences and style to produced a book that is hard to categorize. The book is not academic, but it is saturated with insight gained only through deep and wide study. It's not a devotion, but it reminds us that our God really is worthy of our full attention and service. It's not a Christian self-help book, but it speaks frankly to frail humanity and points us to the glorious Help we have in the Lord.

This book really feels like a visit to a dear friend who is a superb host and who has the place to speak truth in your life. You go home uplifted and pumped up about the full glory of God!

Reading this book showed me that the richness of the Bible's feasts was far more than I'd imagined. Author Alicia J. Akins examines the breadth of God's lavish hospitality, and encourages us to RSVP, taste, and enjoy foretastes of what's ahead.

Combining her seminary training, personal study, and international experience, Akins encourages readers to explore the hope offered in the Scripture, to remember, and to accept with humility. Her style is never dry. She is sometimes poetic, sometimes down-to-earth, and always clear and honest. I've already bought copies of this encouraging book for friends.
