If you don't have a true passion for following Jesus, I suggest praying and reading your bible more before you read this. This book is not for people that are only interested in what Jesus can do for them, and not ready to walk the walk. If you love Jesus so much that you are willing to be obedient to Him no matter what (which is what all true christians should desire), then this book is a must read.

I couldn't put down this book once I started reading. I kept thinking of all the different people I know that would enjoy reading this book like me. Greg Sidders does a fantastic job of relating to people on various levels no matter where their faith experience may be. He writes and communicates simply such deep thoughts and some of the very questions I have had even as a long time believer in Christ. I laughed out loud and quietly soaked in many profound statements. I loved his portrayal of Simon Peter! The entire book was encouraging and thought provoking. It certainly has spurred me on to walk more faithfully and passionately in my relationship with Christ.
Looking back over my twenties I spent as a youth pastor both in Southern California and Chicago I am surprised at the amount of books I squeezed into the weeks between multiple gatherings, projects and Sundays. Attending Grad school at Wheaton College raised the bar of books on my "have read" list to a whole other level. Remembering all of the wonderful authors and insights throughout the years I can honestly say that when Greg Sidders gave me his new book "The Invitation" I was hopeful but I wasn't holding my breath for anything new or earth shattering. Two of the books I have enjoyed the most this past year are Francis Chan's book "Crazy Love" and Greg Sidders book "The Invitation." It resonates with my 30 year old soul as I am constantly comparing the twenty-first century church to that of the first. Following Jesus is simple but never easy. Greg reminds me how brutally beautiful the life of a follower of Jesus truly is. The years Greg has invested in studying the Gospels have been infused into the pages of this book and I feel blessed to have benefited from new insights and his beating heart for the reality Jesus calls us to.
