From the minds of Bill Myers, Frank Peretti, Angela Hunt, and Alton Gansky, Invitation compiles the first four episodes of the Harbingers series, each following a different character.
BRENDA - The street-hustling tattoo artist who sees images of the future.
THE PROFESSOR - The atheist ex-priest ruled by logic.
ANDI - The professor's brilliant but geeky assistant who sees inexplicable patterns
TANK - The naïve, big-hearted jock with a surprising connection to a healing power.
The four find out that pockets of darkness are emerging throughout the world. Whether it involves a mysterious house, the unexplainable death of animals around the world, or an otherworldly little girl, each mystery they solve brings them closer to the ultimate explanation of what's happening. What will happen if they don't solve the mysteries in time?

Gathering four stories from four bestselling author friends, Invitation is the first collection in the ongoing Harbingers series.
In "The Call" by Bill Myers, four strangers are drawn together to help a student at the mysterious Institute for Advanced Psychic Studies. His gifts are supposedly being honed to assist world leaders . . . but there are some very disturbing strings attached. Frank Peretti's "The Haunted" confronts a supernatural mystery, a case of murder, and an exploration into the darkness of the human heart, all centering around a mysterious house.
In Angela Hunt's "The Sentinels," animals around the world are mysteriously dying. What could it mean? When the tragedy begins to touch Andi's dreams, she discovers a terrifying theory. "The Girl" by Alton Gansky is a gripping tale of a young barefoot girl found holding a scroll in the snowy Oregon mountains. She is sweet, innocent--apparently not of this world--and something wants to kill her.

CozyWriter'sDen5 Stars Out Of 5Loved itJuly 18, 2017CozyWriter'sDenQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I haven't been this excited about a book since Patrick Carr's last novel! Invitation had me spellbound and kept me turning the pages until 2am. I've been telling all my friends about this amazing new series and urging them to pick up a copy ASAP.
What is really neat about Invitation is its uniqueness. I have read hundreds (probably thousands) of books, but I haven't ever seen one quite like this, and that makes me very excited. Invitation has one overarching story that is split into four smaller stories - each one written from a different character's point of view and by a different author. I had my doubts about how this would turn out, but they were unfounded. This book reads like a riveting TV series and is SO much fun! I hope this team of authors keeps this new series going for a good long while. I have a feeling it will be a long time before I'm tired of these four adventures.
Speaking of the characters...the concept behind their adventures is very cool (if not a little unnerving). This book delves into "the behind the scenes" events. A second dimension. Do you know what I'm talking about? Angels, demons, forces that play a role in this world but that we can't see. Brenda, the Professor, Andi, and Tank each have their own unique ability to battle against an unseen evil that is rising in the world. As events start happening with increasing frequency, these four are thrust together in the most unlikely but miraculous fashions. I don't want to give anything away...but like I said, I couldn't put this book down. I highly recommend it.
Thank-you to Graf Martin Communication and to Baker Publishing House for a complimentary copy of this book.

The idea intrigued me. Four stellar authors, collaborating on one . . . book? novella? miniseries? thing? And they did it for fun. Just to answer the question, "What if . . .?"
I mean, the questions were numerous: how was this all coming together? would it all come together? what about "creativity clashes?"
Well, I'm here to tell you . . . it worked. Each author wrote from the perspective of one of the main characters, maintaining and developing that character's personality (at times comically, other times quite emotionally), telling one story made up of four.
In THE CALL, Bill Myers introduces us to Brenda, a conniving tattoo artist with a satirical streak a mile wide, and a penchant (gift? curse?) for tatting future events.
Frank Peretti gives us the Professor in THE HAUNTED. The professor is a former priest turned atheist whose logical bent would win accolades on the planet Vulcan (pardon the Star Trek allusion; I'm dating myself, here!).
In THE SENTINELS, Andi is the professor's obsessive/compulsive assistant with a fascination for numbers. Strangely enough, in this instance, the numbers are far from random.
Finally, THE GIRL by Alton Gansky brings us Tank, a naive, football playing good ol' boy with the (inconsistent) gift of healing, and an amazing capacity for love.
Through a series of orchestrated meetings, these four random strangers have been brought together to help restore order, bring healing - and oh, yes - settle the score with supernatural beings intent on bringing death, destruction, annihilation, and subjugation to the inhabitants of planet earth.
You couldn't make this stuff up.
And perhaps these four award-winning authors didn't. Perhaps, and I'm just going out on a limb here, perhaps they have creatively combined their God-given imaginations to share with us an allegory, perhaps a parable - an earthly story that communicates a spiritual truth in a way that draws us in, instead of driving us away.
I've made up my mind. Perhaps you ought to get a copy for yourself and draw your own conclusions.
Regardless . . . my questions have been answered. It works. All of it works. And I'm looking forward to the next installment.
Five Stars for a seamless collaborative effort on the part of four extremely gifted authors!
KavRCanadaGender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Twilight Zone with a twist of faithJune 22, 2017KavRCanadaGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Twilight Zone with a twist of faith.
Invitation follows the format so popular with TV show these days -- where diverse characters with unique gifts band together to fight evil. Only instead of superpowers we have divine gifts. And there's definitely a supernatural quality to these novellas which gradually develops over the course of the four stories. Love the ragtag team of reluctant heroes. Diverse doesn't begin to describe this very eclectic group.
There's Brenda the African American tattoo artist who wears her cynicism on her sleeve. She's snarky and sarcastic and pretends she doesn't care. At all. But she does. And she hates that she does. Then there's the Professor -- an intellectual snob with a gigantic sense of entitlement. Insufferably short-tempered and so annoying! Andi is his geeky assistant (translation: slave.) She has an uncanny ability to create pattern out of chaos which comes in handy more than a time or two. And last of all there's bighearted, football hero, Tank. His gentleness and pure faith are at odds with his 'tank' physique. He might appear to be a plain ol' simple country boy but he possesses a spiritual depth that I found inspiring.
These four definitely aren't kindred spirits but they find themselves thrown together in an unprecedented fight to thwart pockets of darkness that threaten to smother the world. Each novella is told in first person point of view from one of the character's perspectives. And in the process we get some backstory and insight into what makes each of them tick.
Enthralling. A little bit creepy. Eerily good and a definite must read for fans of speculative fiction fans.
An a note to sensitive readers -- there is some crude language in a couple of the stories.
BernCaliforniaAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Supernatural suspenseJune 20, 2017BernCaliforniaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5I was familiar with Frank Peretti from reading his books many moons ago but I was not as familiar with Bill Myers, Angela Hunt, and Alton Gansky. When I picked up the book, I was intrigued and did not know what to expect.
Each of the authors takes on a character and we read a section of the book from that character's perspective and voice. I appreciated how they were able to give us more of each character's
thoughts and outlook. Despite the different authors, each section flowed easily into the other and each voice was distinct and unique without making the book disjointed.
Interestingly enough, as Christians we will quickly agree to the existence of angels but often struggle with the idea of evil spirits. In this work of fiction by four best selling authors, they bring us four divergent individuals from varying walks of life with gifts. Unique circumstances bring them together as they come to see the very presence of evil throughout different parts of the world.
The form of the evil and supernatural activity presents itself through a special school for young people with "gifts", a disappearing and reappearing mysterious house hiding a young orphaned boy, unexplainable deaths of animals throughout the world in very disturbing ways, or a little girl that grows younger as she appears and reappears.
This book was definitely suspenseful and all the twists and turns are not what I had expected. Each chapter is presented from the different perspective of the varying characters: a tattoo artists that sees future pictures, a former priest turned professor that has converted to atheism, the professors' super smart assistant that sees patterns many of us miss, and a gentle giant football player with healing abilities and loving heart.
I especially loved how Tank's, the gentle giant, steady faith in God and His goodness enabled him to joyful and positive. I'm not entirely sure what I think about the rest of the content but it was definitely a suspenseful book that reminds us that evil does exist and there is a greater battle going on in our world amongst the prince of darkness. I'm intrigued and want to find out what's next.
