The Integrated Physics and Chemistry course from Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum (PAC) will introduce students to the people, places, and principles of physics and chemistry, including the scientists whose discoveries we rely upon today. This course has deliberately avoided complex math in order to draw students into high-school level science; it's therefore perfect as a slow introduction to the topic, or for students who need remedial help! It can be used for pre-high school students, or for high school (recommended Grades 9-10 remedial).
Twelve text books feature the readings for the course. Together they cover the Table of Elements, metals, energy, electricity, sodium, solutions, plastics, sound, radioactivity, conservation laws, minerals, simple machines, the history of chemistry, and more.
The twelve activity books correspond to each text, and include fill-in-the-blank, true/false, multiple choice, and matching type questions that test the student's knowledge of the concepts and Life Principles taught in the texts.
The loose-leaf teacher's guide contains the student texts' table of contents, activity answer keys, section quizzes, chapter tests, quiz answer keys, chapter test answer keys, and supplemental administrative resources. Pages are three-hole-punched. An access card to downloadable content is also included.
12 Chapters with 180 lessons; non-reproducible pages, stapled bindings, paper covers. Suggested for Grades 9-10 remedial. Designed to cover two years.
Please Note: Covers may vary.

We wrote in notebooks, not the booklets, so they can be used again. I was very pleased with the course. The only thing we did not like was that there were some weird quotes that the students were tested on. We just ignored them.

I knew a regular Chemistry was not going to work with her, so I looked into what else was out there and found this course. This course is written by John Hudson Tiner---so I knew it should be quality since we have used a couple of his other books in school. I was right. My daughter is picking up important concepts without being overwhelmed by mathematical calculations or endless chemical equations. I did purchase an additional chemistry experiment kit, Chem 3000, to get some hands-on lab experience. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a 'facts only', non-math based chemistry!
Kim Witham3 Stars Out Of 5July 8, 2009Kim WithamWe have used Apologia Science textbooks for most of our high school sciences and were fairly happy with them. The children did not particularly like them and they seemed rather dry, so I started investigating other options. We decided to give Integrated Chemistry and Physics a try with our 10th grade daughter and 11th grade son. We have been very pleased with the program. My husband has a masters in biology and I am a registered nurse, so we are quite familiar with science and what is needed in college. At first glance, these seem "too easy". However, from the first week and throughout the year, both of our children regularly make comments about all kinds of real life things and explain the chemistry, physics, or history behind it. They actually enjoy the content...it is interesting, practical, and relevant...and as a result, they are understanding and retaining the information. This course does avoid complex math equations and does not have a lab/experiment component. We bought a stand alone chemistry experiment kit and used it for labs over a couple of weeks. One down side is that it is made up of "booklets" which are paper and not all that sturdy. For the price, which is considerable, I would have liked it to have been something I could use with multiple children. We did have the lesson booklets 3-hole-punched and put in a large binder to protect them. The student workbooks are consumable and will have to be purchased again for future students. If your child is likely to go into a highly technical field requiring a lot of math and science, this might not be the program for you. If your desire is for your children to receive a thorough, working knowledge of chemistry and physics, and meet high school requirements, then this might be just the thing. Our children have performed well on the ACT and in college.
