Insubordinate acts as a window for the reader into the life of Schuylar Foresyth, a young African-American girl who, during the seven years presented, struggles with her reality a reality that seems to focus on her classmates and how she views herself. During the seven years, the reader has the opportunity to examine Schuylar's behaviors and attitudes toward others and certain situations, and see whether she improves, and if so, by how much. There are many routes to obtaining more information on the matter. One is getting a hold of the bottom rail, pushing it up until it's at a comfortable height, and then letting it go, and peering into the scene.
