This time around, the duo has put together In the Big Inning: Bible Riddles from the Back Pew (make sure the title is in italics), a book filled with Bible-related riddles.For example, the title of the book comes from this riddle:Q: How do you know God is a baseball fan?A: Because he starts off the Bible, In the big inning.Another one:Q: What is Gods favorite food? A: PraisensAnd so it goes. The illustrations are similar to that of the other books by this pair as the ones in this book are again done in a bright, expressive cartoon style.This Bible verse is given as a reference for the book: I will now put forth a riddle unto you. [Judges 14:12]What I Like: This is a great book of Bible-related riddles. Some I had heard before; some were new. In the Big Inning by Mike Thayer & Jared Lee is a hilarious book of silly riddles and puns about the Bible. First Mia's review: I liked this book because sometimes it made me laugh, but I didn't understand a lot of the jokes. My favorite one was: What kingdom in the Bible made the best sandwiches: Ba-baloney-a! I liked the pictures, and my favorite ones were the proph-sea, the mini-stir, and Son-rise. It made me want to learn more about the Bible stories so that I can get the jokes better. Now my review: As an adult, I thought the jokes, which are mostly word plays, were hilarious, but I often had to explain many of them to Mia, so I wouldn't recommend this to kids seven or under. Most of them will go right over their heads. However, this is a perfect book to get a laugh from older kids, especially for breaking the ice with junior high students. The illustrations add to the humor, and even when Mia didn't get the jokes, she enjoyed looking at the pictures. I plan on using these jokes to torture friends and family often!
