In the Big Inning...Bible Riddles from the Back Pew by Mike Thaler presents all of the corniest Bible-related riddles you've ever heard, as well as several dozen new ones. The title comes from the standard riddle, "How do you know God is a baseball fan? Answer: Because he starts off the Bible, 'In the big inning....'" Additionally, there is, "What is God's favorite snack food? Answer: Praisens." Or consider, "Why is Jesus like a shoemaker? Answer: Because he heels soles." Or even, "Why did Jesus value fishermen? Answer: Because they made God net prophets."

The book targets 6 to 9-year-olds, but, let's face it, most youngsters don't understand puns and word plays, so this book will bring groans and mild chuckles to adult readers, but kids will need someone to explain most of the jokes to them. Nevertheless, some of the riddles are so absolutely terrible they force you to laugh. My favorite is, "Who was the first Irishman mentioned in the Bible? Answer: Nick O'Demus."

The book features outlandish cartoons by Jared Lee that are every bit as silly and ridiculous as the riddles they depict, but, in many ways, they will be more entertaining to young readers than the riddles themselves.
