Indescribable: 100 Devotions about God & Science is a wonderful homeschool resource. It is not so much a devotional as it is a book that shares some interesting tidbits of science and then relates how God's indescribable imagination, creativity, and scripture relate to the science. This book is the very first thing that my kids ask for as we begin a school day. They look forward to it. They are excited about it!

    Breakdown

Each lesson begins with a scripture verse. Giglio seems to primarily use the International Children's Bible (ICB). There are also lessons from the New International Version (NIV). I'm not happy with the use of the ICB. I truly don't believe that a child needs a simplified version. It is our responsibility as parents to teach our children about God. it can lead to wonderful places when you discuss the meaning of words and concepts that you encounter in the Bible that a child doesn't understand. A conversation about what Bible version is appropriate is hugely controversial, of this I am aware. This is a review, so I'm sharing my thoughts. My children and I have chosen to look up the scripture in our personal bibles, which happen to be the English Standard Version (ESV). The kids rotate who looks up the scripture of the day. This practice helps them to locate passages in their Bible and gives them an opportunity to read God's word out loud.

The content of the lesson reports an interesting science fact and ties it into a relationship with God. Either the relation of God's creation and imagination to the fact or how that fact can lead towards building a greater relationship with Christ.

The lesson ends with a very short one or two-sentence prayer relating to the material.

Last but not least... my kid's favorite part, Be Amazed. Here you will find fascinating science facts, calls to action, etc. Fun information.

I have found Indescribable: 100 Devotions about God & Science to be a jumping off point for some intimate conversations about God and a whole lot of trips to the Internet to google about the scientific facts involved. I recommend that you get a copy to enjoy with your kids. You definitely don't need to be a homeschool family to learn and have fun with this devotional.

If you are a homeschool parent I will be adding many links to my review of Indescribable on my blog for supplemental study. You can find my blog by searching for blessedandbewiledered (com).

Disclosure... I am not an advocate of all things Louie Giglio. He has some theological beliefs that I do not find expressed in scripture.

As a reviewer for FrontGate Media, I received a review copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. My thanks to FrontGate Media, the author, and publisher.

If you've ever heard Louie Giglio speak, you know that he is a man of God and a man of science. I was super excited to receive Indescribable 100 Devotions about God and Science knowing that I knew he would relate everything back to God and science! Each devotional has a verse, a relevant story, and a Be Amazed section which contains some really interesting and fun science facts. My preschooler loves this book. Each devotional is quick and you can get both your quiet time and your science lesson in one devotion. I would recommend this book for any science fans out there. As a parent, I appreciate the incorporation of science into this book. We could use more books that focus on science.

Indescribable by Louie Giglio is one of my favorite kinds of devotional books. Pastor Louie, as he identifies himself to his readers, has developed 100 devotionals based on facts and observations from God's created world. He is letting the creation testify about the Creator, helping readers grow in faith and in knowledge of their wonderful God.

Pastor Louie identifies four scientific categories for his devotionals: space, earth, animals, and people. Kids and their parents can choose to read straight through the book or focus on one category at a time using the index on page 7.

As with most traditional devotionals, each starts with a Bible verse which is followed by information about something found in God's creation. Pastor Louie helps readers understand what this information can teach readers about God and His ways. He concludes with a short prayer. In addition, prayers are followed by a section called Be Amazed which teaches kids something new of interest about the topic of the devotional. Each devotional also has a full-color photograph or cartoon drawing for added fun.

I especially recommend this book to parents looking for a daily devotional they can read with their children before bedtime or at some other regular time of day. Tommy Nelson sent me a complimentary copy, so that I could share my thoughts with you.
