A new kind of Bible study…
After the success of her first two books, Heather Holleman received many requests to write a Bible study. And as a college English instructor, she wanted to make sure it really taught and didnt simply inform. So she surveyed several women about what their dream study would look like, then got to work.
The result is Included in Christ, a narrative-driven study where you can bring your life before Scripture in the context of community. Together women will discern their personal shadow narrativesways they are living outside of their identity in Christand then rewrite those narratives according to biblical truth.
This in-depth, 8-week study in Ephesians willequip women with six "signature stories" of Gods work in their liveshelping them combat exclusion, loneliness, weakness, decay, emptiness, and silence.
Designed to facilitate honest sharing and help you internalize biblical truth, Included in Christ will provide community and connectedness as well as spiritual nourishment. It will also guide you in how to share your story and the hope of Christ with someone who doesnt yet know Him.
DianeAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Do you know who your really are in Christ?February 13, 2018DianeAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I used this for a women's Bible Study. It is very thought provoking and insightful! We really enjoyed doing the study on our own through the week and then we came together to shared what God had impressed upon our hearts as individuals.
For myself I often felt very moved by the Holy Spirit as I could hear God speaking to me through His word!! The book of Ephesians is a great reminder of all that Christ has done for us and who we are in Christ!
This book does a great job of walking you thorough the book of Ephesians and showing you who we are in Christ.
I would highly recommend this book!
Nay DeniseNJAge: 25-34Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5Different and Thought Provoking.February 10, 2018Nay DeniseNJAge: 25-34Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4The book of Ephesians is definitely a book I enjoyed. I studied it in 4 days and knew it would be a book I'd love to study over and over. Included in Christ is an 8 week Bible study focused on the book of Ephesians written by Heather Holleman, who is a new author for me. Each week is broken down into 5 days so it allows you 2 days of either relaxing (meditating on the Word) or catching up on what you haven't completed.
I was excited for this study especially after checking out the brief synopsis that was provided, however, this was not a typical study that I personally like. It was more therapeutic than it was Biblical for me. The study itself is beautiful. I love the pops or blue and green which remind me to be at peace (blue) and to keep my faith strong (green). The study is well written and focuses on 7 words: included, chosen, seated, strengthened, renewed, proclaim and filled. I like the verbs she picked and how indepth she goes into them. The scripture references are perfect, the questions are even thought provoking. What turns me off is rather how the questions come off to me. I feel as if they are written as if a therapist is asking them. As much as I would have loved to give this study a full 5/5 I couldn't.
I love that this study contains a lot of writing. I am a firm believer that Bible studies should have a ton of space to write down answers and good thought provoking questions to get the reader involved in the Word. As i write this review, I'm still up in the air about this study. I like it, love how interactive it is, but some of the questions throw me off.
Would I recommend it? Definitely. I think it's a good one to have, but I wouldn't have it on my top list of Bible study recommendations. I say purchase it and look through it for yourself.
Brianna4 Stars Out Of 5Included in ChristFebruary 5, 2018BriannaQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3I am intrigued by the book of Ephesians. My husband and I chose a passage from Ephesians for our wedding, and I return to Ephesians numerous times when I need encouragement and challenge. Subsequently, I became excited when I saw Included in Christ, a Bible study of Ephesians, written by Heather Holleman.
In Included in Christ, Holleman highlights the words included, chosen, seated, strengthened, renewed, filled, and proclaiming. The week-long studies of strengthened and renewed especially challenged me. The current season of my life probably contributed to my fascination with these particular studies. I believe I could read those pages several times and glean new thoughts each time.
Throughout the study, Holleman guides readers to capture their Savior Story in contrast to their Shadow Narrative. This aspect is likely interesting to readers who enjoy writing or journaling. However, the emphasis on writing could exclude some readers who are not drawn to writing. Even so, Holleman writes in a relatable way and all readers writers or not will benefit from this 8-week study of Ephesians.

I found the idea of living with the right narrative enlightening. Shadow narratives are the lies we tell ourselves about why we don't belong. I thoroughly enjoyed this book; but, it's definitely more of a study/journal that a book. A great review of Ephesians for people (like me) who struggle with their identity in Christ, encouraging but not in depth. The study is 8-weeks, 5 days a week and it's the typical study format. It's light enjoyable study; don't take that wrong, it's a great reminder that we are included and loved and seated with Christ.
I received this book from the publishers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
VictorybelleAge: 18-24Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5More Journal Bible Study!August 28, 2017VictorybelleAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3I was glad to see that Heather had written a Bible study! I really enjoyed her previous books "Seated with Christ" and "Guarded by Christ." I learned and was encouraged by them both. This Bible study is no different.
This 8-week Bible goes through the book of Ephesians. Again, using her love of verbs to draw out and be encouraged in the facts of how we are included, wanted, and desired by Christ. I liked how she went through how we should live through the right narrative, it was insightful!
I personally liked the book, but it was more of a review of Ephesians and journaling book for people (like myself who have) struggle with their identity in Christ. Encouraging, but not an in-depth study of Ephesians like you would maybe expect. More of a therapy-journaling book than a study on God's word. These books are good too though! It's a good perspective to read from, especially if you are struggling with your identity. I know I have and it's helpful in area's.
I give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars!
I received this book for free from the publishers in exchange for this honest and unbiased review as part of Moody Publishers Bloggers Review program.
