Tell us a little about yourself. I'm in communications, travel globally helping companies improve their customer service and marketing dept. I have published a few books for my industry. McGraw-Hill is one of my major publishers. I'm a mother of three children and grandmother of 4+1 on the way. They call me Nana; of course I trained them to say that! I love my family and friends and hold them very close to me. I love to entertain in my home. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior when I was 15 yrs old and seriously walked daily with Him for the past 21 years.
What was your motivation behind this project? When I was a child, my father sexually abused me. Thereafter I felt like a target and was abused by other men. I developed a weight problem and later realized I was using weight to shield myself from being noticed by men. I never had an eating problem I had an emotional problem. After a number of inner healing sessions and while writing this book, which initially was a journal to put my feelings on paper, I got healed and set free from the affects of the abuse. Within a few months after completing the book I lost 100 pounds! I didn't diet to lose it, it was through my healing experience!
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? To educate people that being fat isn't all about food or being lazy, it can go much deeper than that. Even people who don't have a fat problem have an image problem that often stems from trauma in their life. My primary goal is to help others get set free from their abuse so that it no longer holds them back from their God given destiny.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I was able to forgive those who abused me, realized where God was during that time, and gained a greater understanding of who I am in Christ. Even when something bad happens to you, God will find a way out to benefit you and glorify Him. I was able to be free from the emotional pain of abuse and not only shed 100 pounds of fat but emotional baggage I was carrying deep within me.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Joyce Meyers, because she experienced what I had and much of how she describes her life sounds like mine. I can relate to her.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I'm just a regular person that was cheated in life. But through it all, I crawled out of my circumstances and made something of myself. Although I tried for many years, I could never have done it without the Lord helping me all the way, once I allowed Him to. Through my journey I experienced a 180 degree turnaround, but it took a lot of bad decisions along the way to get there. Once I allowed God to help me, and recognized my past does not have to dictate my future, that I have the ability to be anything I want to be, that was the start for me and it can be for you too.
