WOW! Oh my word! When does this sequel come out? Not til next year?! I don't think I can wait that long, but ... alas, I do not have a choice.

This book was incredible, on-the-edge-of-my-seat, can't-get-anything-else-done type book! Terri had me from the very first chapter eating out of her hand, wondering, trying to read faster, and definitely NOT wanting to put this book down!

Casey's friend Brent has just been murdered and she is suspect number one. But of course, she wouldn't murder her best friend would she? If not, then why is she running?

Dylan, Brent's childhood friend and military partner has been hired as a PI to find her. But the more he learns about Casey, the more he wonders how she could have killed Brent, and yet, if she didn't why would she run. The deeper he digs, the more he uncovers and the story is not pretty.

Casey's past is a bit sketchy, having found her dad dead at age twelve. His death ruled a suicide, but Casey has always suspected otherwise. Dylan, is facing his own inner demons after several military deployments and losing some close colleagues. He suffers from PTSD, and he can understand what Casey must be feeling. He works hard to get in her head and figure out what caused her to snap. His gut feeling though, tells him she didn't do it, yet he knows he has to go with facts not feelings.

This is the first book I have read by Terri, but it left me longing for more. I will definitely be looking up more of her books. The end although giving some resolution also leaves us at a bit of a cliffhanger as the series continues! I am eagerly looking forward to the next one.

I received this book from Fiction Guild in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not required to review this book positively.

First thoughts: This book was so fresh and unique! I loved every minute of it. While I usually struggle with the first person perspective, this one was so well written that I barely noticed it as I became engrossed in the storyline. I liked that the author didn't shy away from Dylan's PTSD and his dark thoughts. It brought grit and reality to the story. This didn't go at all like I thought it would, but I really enjoyed the story.

Plot: When Casey Cox discovers her friend Brent's body, she realizes she'll be blamed for the murder, packs up a few things and skips town. Contacted by Brent's parents, former Army Criminal Investigator Dylan Roberts is hired to track Casey down and bring her to justice. The action never stops as Casey is on the run, forced to create a false identity while still trying to solve Brent's murder.

Characters: The story is told alternately from Casey and Dylan's perspectives. Casey quickly earned my respect as she proves how smart and resourceful she is. I love how she takes the time to pay her landlord before she leaves. That says a lot about her character. Dylan is a dark hero, dealing with PTSD. I liked his tenacity and how he didn't take everything at face value, but wanted to learn more about Casey and what happened to Brent.

Recommendation: I'd highly recommend this book to fans of suspense. It's the first in the series and judging by this one, they may all revolve around Casey and Dylan. There are some things that are not resolved by the end of the book. It didn't have as much of a spiritual thread as I expected from Terri Blackstock, but I'm seeing great potential for more of that in future stories. She has been a favorite author for a long time and I'm looking forward to the next book! (Rather impatiently)

If I Run is a story of mistaken identity, loss, running for your life, isolation, and trusting someone your not sure you should. Casey is being sought for what she knows about her fathers death and now about her boyfriends death as well, who just happens to be the police - so where do you run to when it is the police who are after you - who are the bad guys? The ones who are suppose to protect you and are out to kill you or charge you with your boyfriends murder. It is the ultimate betrayal.. Dylan was a criminal investigator in the army with PTSD - now he is hired as a PI to find Casey by her dead boyfriends family - he meets her and feels she is innocent 0 she gets away (not that he was keeping her). He starts to look into the murder himself while he hunts her down. Does he see what the police do? Is Casey safe? Who is helping Casey? Is it enough when you have the whole police department after you? What has Dylan learned to help her or did it? I received a complimentary copy of this book; all the opinions in this review are all my own.
