Publisher's Description

The captivating story behind the bestselling single in the history of Christian music—and the man who wrote it

MercyMe’s crossover hit, "I Can Only Imagine," has touched millions of people around the world. But few know about the pain, redemption, and healing that inspired it. Now Bart Millard, award-winning recording artist and lead singer of MercyMe, shares how his dad’s transformation from abusive father to man of God sparked a divine moment in music history.

Go behind the scenes of Bart’s life—and the movie based on it—to discover how God repaired a broken family, prepared Bart for ministry through music, and wrote the words on his heart that would change his life forever. I Can Only Imagine is a front-row seat to witnessing God’s presence throughout Bart’s life. Whether falling in love with his childhood sweetheart or mourning his father’s death, founding MercyMe or flailing in the midst of its success, Bart continues to place his trust in God’s plans—plans that continue to surprise and surpass what Bart could have ever imagined.

The first time I heard I Can Only Imagine was when I accept Jesus into my heart and always imagined how I could be the hands and feet of Jesus. Now I know!!!! Share Jesus with anyone and everyone! Bart Millards story is inspiring, shows how Gods grace and love surpasses everything. I Can Only Imagine written by Bart Millard is the story behind the song and his life. We serve a mighty God, He transformed Barts dad and He can and will transform you if you allow Him to. I cried, I heard God speaking to me through the words of Barts story. Once you accept Jesus into your heart, your life is transformed and you will never be the same. Jesus loves us so much that He died for us. Bart gets right to the truth, his story is a must read.

I received an ARC from the publisher. My opinions are my own.

    I Can Only Imagine

An amazing book. Bart Millard's Memoir has so much information about the life behind I Can Only Imagine. Actually tells the story of the God of Bart Millard and his working through his life to bring him to the man he is today. A very inspirational book. I liked the way the book was divided into ten chapters, each of the ten chapters plus the introduction and the conclusion were named for one of Mercy Me's songs. Each had a few lines of the songs included. An amazing story of God at work in the lives of Bart and his family and Mercy Me. I'm so glad I read the book before I saw the movie.

I felt it a honor to be able to read this great book by Bart Millard. This was so amazing! A lifetime of living to get this song. I know he said 10 minutes but it was his life. Life of abuse and a story of forgiveness. By the grace of God, Bart is who is today. A life changed through God and music. Please read the book it is so much detailed of his life . The movie will be coming out in March but to me only so much can go into the time frame of a movie. I plan on doing both. Is there room for second chances in life? Yes I believe there are. Well written!!

I Can Only Imagine is the first-hand narrative of a young daydreaming tyke growing up in Greenville, Texas who goes on to become a multi-platinum award winning songwriter and performer with the Contemporary Christian Music group MercyMe.

Barts story is not your typical boy grows up surrounded by family strong in the faith and therefore knows his purpose from a young age and proceeds to live it out. No, Barts story can be hard to read at times, due to the sometimes unimaginable abuse and loss he suffered as a child growing up.

What Bart saw and experienced would have easily broken so many for life, yet with the support of extended family, friends, church, and musician allies, Bart used the adversity he experienced in life not only to become an inspiration for many all over the world with his music, but ultimately God used his gift to transform those very same people who abused and left him as a child.

The reality is that Barts childhood story is more prevalent than we would like to believe, yet it is a glowing example of how God can turn around even the hardest heart, and how He can take the hard times we experience in life and use them to provide hope and healing.

I was provided a copy of the book to review and was not compensated in any way.

i laughed, I cried as I read this memoir of Bart Millards life. Bart is the founder and lead singer of MercyMe. The book, and upcoming movie by the same title, allow us to see the physical, emotional, mental pain caused by the abusive relationship Bart had with his father. Growing up in this dysfuntion, Bart turned to music as his safe place. He and two friends called themselves The Three Muskeeters, one of whom was Shannon, who after many years and many miles later became his wife. It is a story of Gods grace and mercy, His redemptive love and the truth that Bart reminds us of from Psalm 139, All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.. If you choose one non-fiction book this year, make it I Can Only Imagine!
