Discover how to lead your child to Christ.
It's the most important conversation you'll ever have with your child, but that doesn't make it easy. The gospel is simple enough for little ones, but has kept theologians debating for years. So when it comes to explaining the Good News to your son or duahgter, where do you start?
In I Believe in Jesus, John MacArthur walks children though the gospel of Jesus in a way that is easy to understand, and equips parents, grandparents, teachers, and loved ones to to share the familiar story of God's love.
By opening the door to conversations that lead to salvation, this picture books has the potential to change lives forever.

I Believe in Jesus is an excellent book for young children to be introduced to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Not only are they made aware of what Jesus did on the cross, but they are introduced to who God and the Holy Spirit is and how all three [God, Jesus, Holy Spirit] are one. It also tells about Adam and Eve and how sin originated in all of us through their actions.
Each page adds important information into a young childs mind of what the Bible teaches us about God, creation, man, and our Savior, Jesus. In addition to the narration, there is the relating Scripture verse for every entry. The verses support what is being said throughout I Believe in Jesus. Along with the textual content, there are the amazing illustrations. The illustrations bring color, life, and beauty into each and every page. I highly recommend I Believe in Jesus to all young readers and their parents.
Kendra3 Stars Out Of 5not age appropriateJune 9, 2016KendraQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3Beginning with creation, the book tells how God created a perfect world, people chose to sin, and how every person since then is also sinful, but God had a plan to forgive us. Then follows a very brief retelling of Jesus' birth, his perfect life, his death and resurrection, wherein Jesus took the punishment for our sins so we can be forgiven and go to heaven. Then we are told how this gift of forgiveness can be ours--by believing and receiving--and led in a prayer "if you are ready." The concluding pages tell how to show our acceptance of God's forgiveness (baptism, reading the Bible, praying, and obeying), and how the Holy Spirit will help us. Each page includes appealing illustrations and Bible verses/references for additional study.
This book is advertised as being written for children ages 2-5. I read it with my two and four year olds. They seemed to understand the words, and when I read the prompting questions (for example, "Have you ever noticed how hard it is to always be good, kind, loving and unselfish? How hard it is to obey?") of course they answered yes to every one, so the logical conclusion then is that they also answer yes when you read "Would you like God to forgive you so that someday you can live with him in heaven?" and prompt them in praying the sinner's prayer, even if they have no concept or understanding of what that really means or "if they are ready."
While I think the message of this book is a good one, the subtitle Leading Your Child to Christ and cover copy (i.e. "Share the gospel with a child using this beautiful picture book...and allow God to use you to change their lives forever!") could make it seem like "all I have to do is read this book to my kids, get them to pray the prayer, and they're saved." There is a lot more teaching and training that needs to be done to help a child truly understand their need for a Saviour. I think it is important to be careful and considerate of the intellectual maturity of children and how that plays a role in their understanding of and assurance of salvation. (A book that has been formative in my thoughts about this is Don't Make Me Count to Three! by Ginger Plowman, particularly Appendix B: How to Lead Your Child to Christ.) At the very least, I think the actual age appropriateness of this book is 6-12, depending on the maturity of the child.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for this review.
Helen MAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful BookJune 6, 2016Helen MAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I Believe in Jesus, written by John MacArthur, is a beautiful book written as a resource to use with children to lead them to the Lord. The picture book contains bible stories of God and creation as well as Jesus, his birth, life, death and resurrection. The book does an awesome job of explaining the three parts of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit and the roles they play.
The books also covers sin and forgiveness of sin. There are two words in the Bible that tell us how we can have a place in heaven. This is a gift from God and all we have to do is believe that Jesus die for us and rose again. The second is to receive Jesus as our Savior and asking for His forgiveness.
This is a wonderful book for children. The recommended age is 2 5 but I feel it would be helpful even for children a little older. The younger child will find the pictures very pretty. There are several Bible stories within the book as well as information to help a child understand the process of becoming a christian, all of which are very clear and easy to understand.. There are bible verses that go with each part of the story and additional bible readings to explore more about what the stories cover. This is a book that would be very nice for anyone who works with children to have for that perfect time to help a child make the decision to follow God. The explanation of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit is so easy to understand.
