In her book Holy Hygge: Creating a Place for People to Gather and the Gospel to Grow, Jamie Erickson explains the concept of hygge and how we can incorporate it into our lives. In addition to learning about the practice, she also teaches readers how to use the methods to make their home a place that honors and reflects Christ.

Erickson explains that the Gospel and hygge have the same basic markers: hospitality, relationships, well-being, welcoming atmosphere, comfort, contentment, and rest. In each chapter, she goes over one of the markers and explains both the hygge and Gospel connection. She also gives plenty of useful, practical ways to put each into practice, so you have a starting point for how to apply this information when you're done reading the book. She gives both seasonal and everyday ways to put these into practice. Every chapter ends with questions, verses, and a prayer.

This is written for Christian women specifically, more likely for those with families who entertain. However any woman can use these principles in her home.

This was the perfect book to read as the weather gets colder and we begin to make our houses cozier. I really enjoyed learning how to not only make my home cozy and inviting, but how to use those methods to show love for my neighbors and show the love of Christ. I enjoyed reading this and gave it 4/5 stars.

Loved it! She does a great explaining hygge and how it relates to Jesus and what he has called us to do. There are so many little nuggets in this book of good principals. So much cozy. I do wish it was safer to invite people in and experience the cozy together, unfortunately we are still in a global pandemic. I really did love a lot of the principals this books talks about. Now I'm going to go make a cup of tea and cozy with a blanket and read another book.

I received a copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for an honest review.

I was immediately intrigued with this book based on the back cover description. As noted there, Hygge is a Danish word that really has no English equivalent but holds an incredible amount of meaning when describing a standard of living within the home.

Erickson structures the book with eight chapters including a very valuable appendix. The chapters are as follows:

    - Hospitality

    - Relationships

    - Well-Being

    - Atmosphere

    - Comfort

    - Contentment

    - A Home for the Homeless

Each chapter touches on one aspect of the Hygge lifestyle. They follow the same format with specific sections:

    - Introductory Quote: this introduces the specific aspect of Hygge from a different perspective

    - Considering...: provides questions for the reader to ponder and consider how to apply to their daily lives

    - Taste and See: provides additional scripture references that dig into the aspect of Hygge

    - Prayer: a pre-written prayer focused on the aspect of Hygge and making it become a reality in our lives through the power of Christ

I love how Erickson takes each aspect of Hygge and directly relates them to a specific characteristic of God. Her encouragement to view our homes and the service it can bring as a blessing and opportunity to further the Gospel is very convicting.

She also provides a wonderful appendix that includes activities for gathering people and growing the Gospel. These are simple yet powerful ways to be effective in Hygge.

I enjoyed the entire book and will utilize many of the Hygge aspects as a way to further the gospel and relationship gatherings.

Hygee is a Danish word that has no English word as an equivalent. It implies peace, comfort, and a place to gather. The author illustrates this concept to include how the truths of the Gospel. Hygee appeals to our desire to escape the busy life, slow down, and connect with others. It is warm and inviting and embraces beauty and contentment.

The chapters in the book include Hospitality, Relationships, Well Being, Atmosphere, Comfort, Contentment, Rest and A Home for the Homeless. At the end of each chapter there are questions to consider about the topic presented, Scripture to read and ponder and a prayer about the topic. There is also an appendix that has many ideas to put into practice the concepts presented.

This is a timely topic and one our busy world desperately needs. It could be used for a small group discussion. I highly recommend this book. I received this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for this honest review.
