When I first saw this book, I was intrigued by the title. It caught my attention because I know I've made that statement before, either to my husband or to myself. So, I thought "why not?" Let me tell you how happy I am that I picked up this book. Rhonda Stoppe is an excellent author. Her conversational tone throughout the book made me feel at ease, even during the topics that pricked at my consciousness. I felt like I was sitting down with my girlfriends for a nice chat every time I picked up this book.

While a lot of the topics addressed in this book I haven't experienced in this stage in my marriage (2 years in September!), I will definitely read this book and refer to it again throughout our marriage. The wisdom I've gleaned from it's pages is immeasurable. I could have little orange sticky note tabs all over the book, but I tried to contain myself! Here are a few of the points that really stuck out to me:

"The key to having an all-out love for your husband lies in how well you love God." (pg. 16)

"The first insight into building a love that lasts is to take your focus off of how much you want to be loved by your husband." (Now, I'll admit, I had to really let that soak before I could appreciate it's truth - pg. 39)

"When you are selfishly devoted to yourself rather than to God and others - in this case, your husband - you will resist giving of yourself to him selflessly." (pg. 111)

"When you commit to seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness, you will find contentment and peace in your marriage--and life." (pg. 136)

"It is not enough to merely read the Bible and pray for a marriage free from conflict." (pg. 143)

Lastly, the prayer for her husband she wrote on page 187 is a beautiful model prayer that I wouldn't hesitate to say over my hubby regularly.

Overall, whether you're in your first years or in the thick of your marriage, it's never too early or too late to read this fantastic book.

And I thought... A very modern approach excellent for all women. Although this reader didn't care for the title. And actually neither did The Cowboy. I get the concept. But, I think that there are women that wouldn't buy the book based on the title. Especially if your in a marriage that is struggling. There have been times in my marriage that if I had bought this title I wouldn't have left it laying around for The Cowboy to see. With that said . . .

I encourage you to buy it anyway. The teaching is Biblically sound. And in my opinion if Elizabeth Barnes endorsed it (and she did) then you need to read it!

This one is a keeper for me (along with the titles by Elizabeth Barnes).

It was a simple read. Filled with humor and light heartedness but also filled with great insight and sound scriptural advice.

I received a lovely complimentary signed copy from Litfuse in exchange for my honest review.

Rhonda Stoppe has written an open and honest book for all women out there, ones who have been married for many years or just a short while or for those who are engaged and planning to be married. Rhonda addresses thoughts that many women may (and probably will) think at some point about her husband and her marriage in this book, each chapter focusing on a specific thing. Biblical characters and their stories are shared as well as personal friends and acquaintances and her own personal experience. A male's perspective is shared as well and discussion and reflection questions for each chapter. I found this book to have many things to think on and consider in my own life. This is a quick read and one that would be good to pick up and read certain chapters in times of feeling frustrated or down as this is an encouraging read and a great reminder that we are not alone on this journey of life.

Contains discussion questions and personal reflections at the end of each chapter.

Ladies, it is official what you brought to the wedding were all kinds of stories that he could not possibly live up to. Honestly there is so much men have to live up to that having a whole bunch of myths operating against certainly is not going to help. Rhonda Stoppe examines twelve myths that women bring into the marriage. At the close of each chapter her husband, Steve, has written a section called From a Husbands Perspective. As you read what he says, you will not only glean a mans perspective, but also insights from the many years of Biblical counseling he has done with husbands and wives. At the end of each chapter you will find two sections called, Thinking It Through and Living It Out. These will allow you to study and apply the truths youve learned. Are you married? No matter how good, or bad, your marriage is this book will make it better. Thinking of getting married? This book will give you new thoughts. Know others that are married? This book can help them too. No matter where you are in life I believe this book would be beneficial for any stage of marriage you are at. Everyone should have this book.

Rhonda Stoppes writing style is conversational and engaging, which helps puts readers at ease. Because, if youre picking up a book with this kind of title, unless youre doing so for review purposes, you probably are hurting. Your marriage isnt turning out the way you expected it to, the way you dreamed it would, and youve probably become very disillusioned with love and romance and all those fairy tale imaginings we women carry close to our hearts. You need someone to sit down next to you knee to knee and hold your hands, look in your eyes, and tell you that they get it, that youre not alone, and that there is hope.

A book like this, with Rhonda Stoppe at the helm, is the next best thing.

Perfect for newlyweds and oldyweds (like me lol), If My Husband Would Change, Id Be Happy gives hope and practical resources to wives who are at the end of their patience, the end of their love, and perhaps the end of their marriage. Its engaging and conversational while at the same time packed with solid truth, Scriptural support, and wise advice. I also really enjoyed the From a Husbands Perspective at the end of each chapter, written (as you may have already guessed) by the authors husband. The chapters also end with two sections called Thinking It Through and Living It Out and links are provided throughout to Rhondas website NoRegretsWoman.com for additional supplemental material. These all combine together to make this an excellent resource for small groups too. I know I will be re-reading this book often to keep the truths in it at the forefront of my mind and my marriage.

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I am Rhonda Stoppe - the No Regrets Woman. I am passionate about helping women build NO REGRETS LIVES, through sound doctrine of Scripture, humor, and honest communication, I help women live so that one day they will look back and say–NO REGRETS! I have appeared on numerous radio programs, speaks at women’s events, MOPs, and homeschool conventions throughout the nation. (You can listen to my radio interviews/messages at NoRegretsWoman.com

What was your motivation behind this project?  I just love love - don't you? For over 20 years my husband, Steve (the love of my life & high school sweet heart) and I have been helping people love each other the way they meant to on the day they said "I Do"…Often whenever a wife can get her husband to come into our office for biblical marriage counsel she is secretly thinking, "Oh good, now they will change him and then I can be happy". Once we help a wife discover where her true happiness lies, she is ready to unpack the other myths wives believe about how to be happy in marriage. And when this happens… Oh WOW watch out! Their marriage begins to transform into the marriage they had always hoped for! In writing IF MY HUSBAND WOULD CHANGE I'D BE HAPPY I get to go home with the reader, take her by the hand, and become a personal #MarriageMentor to help her build a NO REGRETS marriage!

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I want every woman who reads this book to learn how to be the wife she meant to be on the day she said "I Do"! And it is my deepest desire to see Christian Marriages transformed to reflect Christ's love so deeply that God can use their adoration for one another to draw others to know Christ-Beginning with their own children. Jesus said, "They will know you are my disciples by your love for one another." This love MUST begin at home, if we are ever going to become the light of the world that Jesus talked about. Your love shines brightest when life gets hard, your husband doesn't measure up to your expectations, or maybe your husband never becomes a Christ follower. In the love stories in IF MY HUSBAND WOULD CHANGE I'D BE HAPPY you will find inspiration, and HOPE for a happy marriage whether or not your husband ever measures up to your expectations.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I laughed, I cried…The love stories contained in this book are just glorious inspiration! How Peter watched his own wife crucified, and what his final words were to his bride take your breath away! The love story of Charles Spurgeon and his bride is delightful, and gives the reader HOPE to love the way these two loved each other. And the many stories I told about my own love story, (like living on a generator in the middle of nowhere for over a year with my man), and the love stories of modern day Priscilla & Acquilla's, etc will give you a grasp on how short our time is on this earth, and to live in a manner worthy of our calling only makes sense–Beginning with building a marriage that others will want to emulate, and a legacy our children–and grandchildren will pass down for generations to come!

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I was deeply influenced by the love of my own mother-in-law & father-in-law. Their love was so deep, so captivating that even when my mother-in-law was diagnosed with alzheimer's and she no longer knew her husband, his love for her was so deep he cared for her himself, refusing to put her in a home. Jim & Elizabeth George's love story was an inspiration . You can read their story in this book. (Elizabeth George wrote an endorsement for the book) Shaunti Feldhahn's social researcher and best selling author of the book FOR WOMEN ONLY shared valuable insights into what sex means to men. I have included these insights in this book. (Shaunti also wrote an endorsement for this book.)

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I just LOVE this book! I am so excited to walk with you through the pages of IF MY HUSBAND WOULD CHANGE I'D BE HAPPY-And Other Myths Wives Believe! AT THE END OF EACH CHAPTER you will find suggested links ON NoRegretsWoman.com to: - CHRISTIAN LOVE SONGS - Listen to me (Rhonda) teaching a short 3-5 minute message on each chapter I am confident the secrets you discover in this book can help you build a NO REGRETS MARRIAGE (they helped me)! And when this happens your love will shine brightly like stars in your generation–and make Christ known to a world that desperately needs to learn that knowing Jesus is ONLY ANSWER to happily-ever-after!
