Tell us a little about yourself. I am the father of seven children. My wife and I have been teaching our children at home for over twenty-three years. I am a graduate of Whitefield College, and have written or edited numerous books over the years for Christian Liberty Press, as well as Great Light Publications.
What was your motivation behind this project? I wanted to tell a story that would help young people to understand the true story of whaling in the 1800's. I also had the desire to tell a story that would powerfully communicate the truth that God alone preserves and protects his children, no matter where they may go on land or sea. (Psalm 139)
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I want readers to be reminded of the value of a good friend, especially in times of trouble. I also want readers to know the way of salvation through Jesus Christ, i.e. the Gospel. Finally, I want readers to know that the men who risked their lives to capture whales were not senseless killers, but sailors who were trying to make an honest living from the sea.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I find great satisfaction in being able to tell a story that has a rich blend of adventure and humor, as well as powerful themes that showcase biblical truth. I came away from this project, eager to share it with my own children.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I took a great deal of effort to include a number of helpful illustrations in my book, so that readers could gain a solid understanding of how whaling men lived and worked.
