Humility, or holding power loosely for the sake of others, is sorely lacking in todays world. Without it, many people fail to develop their true leadership potential and miss out on genuine fulfillment in their lives and their relationships. Humilitas: A Lost Key to Life, Love, and Leadership shows how the virtue of humility can turn your strengths into true greatness in all areas of life. Through the lessons of history, business, and the social sciences, author John Dickson shows that humility is not low self-esteem, groveling, or losing our distinct gifts. Instead, humility both recognizes our inherent worth and seeks to use whatever power we have at our disposal on behalf of others. Some of the worlds most inspiring and influential players have been people of immense humility. The more we learn about humility, the more we understand how essential it is to a satisfying career and personal life. By embracing this virtue, we will transform for good the unique contributions we each make to the world.
John Dickson (PhD, Macquarie University, Sydney) is a senior research fellow of the Department of Ancient History, Macquarie University; codirector of the Centre for Public Christianity; and senior minister at St. Andrews Roseville. The author of more than a dozen books, he is the host of two major historical documentaries for Australian television and is a busy public speaker in corporations, universities, churches, and conferences.
Eva P. Scott4 Stars Out Of 5Interesting Take on HumilityApril 19, 2017Eva P. ScottQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4This book is written like a business book in that it is written for leaders, although being humble is important for everyone.
The book takes a look at humility through history, how Jesus changed humility into something that was desired, and how it is important in leadership today.
The book tells stories of people in history to illustrate his points. This made the book interesting.
Note that the author is from Sydney and the spelling is British. He also uses illustrations from Australia and his personal life. All of this makes the book interesting as well.
I had purchased the hardback copy which was about 180 pages without the reference notes. (It may or may not still be available.) The book is full of black & white photos of the people he references, has a Bibliography and Notes section for further study.
