Publisher's Description

Read the rhymes, lift the flaps, and let little ones discover God as the source of every good thing as children from around the world recognize God’s everyday gifts—from yummy pancakes to daisies on the hill and rainbows in the sky. It’s time to cuddle up together and count our blessings.

Author Bio

Allia Zobel Nolan is an internationally-published author of over 200 children’s titles and adult trade titles. Her books reflect her two main passions, God and cats. Zobel Nolan lives and writes in Connecticut with her husband, Desmond Nolan and their two feline children.

Allia Zobel Nolan's children's picture book, Hugs and Kisses, God, from the Kids Around the World series, offers a little surprise for young readers on each double-page spread. On the right side border there is a lift-up flap which extends the drawing another three inches to provide more drawings and dialogue from the children in the story. Although the children in the scenes are all in America (everything is written in English and the scenes are typical American settings), the children are of various ethnic and racial backgrounds, including Asian, African, European, and Hispanic.

The text of the book is written in simple rhyme patterns. The rhyme and meter are a bit stilted at times, but youngsters won't be put off by it. The artwork by Miki Sakamoto is not sophisticated, but it is colorful, and it shows children interacting with parents, grandparents, teachers, and friends their own age. Each child thanks God for something special to him or her (a stack of pancakes, some lovely daisies on a hill, the stars in the night sky). The book provides no quotes from Scripture nor any references to biblical stories, but the messages of respect for God and kindness to others gives the book a strong moral base. – Dr. Dennis E. Hensley,
