Publisher's Description

A spiritual biography of the "father of modern missions,"Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret poses one question: What empowered Hudson Taylor's ministry in China?

The answer is unfolded in these pages. Written by Taylor's son and daughter-in-law, it shows us a man with fierce faith who believed that God truly would fuflill all He promises in Scripture.

For Christians longing for the inward joy and power that Hudson Taylor had, they can find the secret to it here. The secret, it turns out, is available to any who call on Christ's name.

"An easy, non-self-denying life will never be one of power," Taylor said. "Fruit-bearing involves cross-bearing. There are not two Christs—an easygoing one for easygoing Christians, and a suffering, toiling one for exceptional believers. There is only one Christ. Are you willing to abide in Him, and thus to bear much fruit?"

Now with a new foreword by George Verwer

Author Bio

DR. FREDERICK HOWARD TAYLOR (1862-1946) was a British missionary to China and the son, James Hudson Taylor, the founder of China Inland Mission. He completed his diploma at the Royal London Hospital in 1888 Howard and his wife, GERALDINE, wrote several books about his father¿s ministry and their own experiences in China.GERALDINE TAYLOR (1862-1948) was born in London and as a young lady had a burden for the downcast and depressed girls who worked in the factories in the east end of London. For a number of years she had a very fruitful ministry among the factory girls helping to elevate the downtrodden. In 1888 she felt the call of God to missionary service and, under the China Inland Mission, went to China. It was here that she met and married Howard Taylor and embarked on a very rich, long ministry in China and around the world. They were greatly used of the Lord to challenge people for missions, particularly missions in China.

Faith building. Life-changing. This book has changed the way I pray. It has given me a higher view of God and a greater sense of my oneness with Christ. This particular book is an abbreviated version (half the length) of a longer biography written by the same authors about one of the most fruitful pioneer missionaries in the history of Christianity. Hudson Taylor's profound commitment to living an "exchanged life" as he depended on God for his every need has made the story of his life a great example to anyone who desires to live their life fully committed to Jesus.

The story can seem to be lifeless in the beginning. This is not a complaint or a criticism, but it is to show the transformation that occurred in Hudson Taylor's life. His life radically changed, and so did the story, when he discovered "Christ who is your life." And his life became one of powerful inspiration and ours can be too. I would recommend this!

Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret has been one of the most influential books in my lifetime. Before reading that book I thought that being a Christian meant that I was to ask Jesus into my heart to be forgiven, and then, when I died I'd go to heaven. This book showed me SO MUCH! When Jesus Christ comes to live and reign in my life, He begins a process on the inside to bring me to be more like Jesus NOW. He brings a new QUALITY of life here! The Holy Spirit comes to be my Teacher and as I am immersed in the scriptures (discovering what God is showing me what to be and do with His enabling), there come adventures day by day--living illustrations of the reality of being a Christian NOW and then, getting to be with Him after this life is over. NO COMPARISON to the works-related religion of my past!

This review was written for Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret.
This book has had an amazing impact on my life. I bought it nearly a year ago and recently purchased it for a friend for Christmas. Within in the year of my owning the book I must have read it at least 4 times. I read alot of books that are theologically "deep" and while this book has that aspect, it also has alot of practical truths that can be applied the first time you read the book. Purchase this book and I promise you will not regret it. Follow the example of Hudson Taylor and other saints of God and learn that Christianity is more about being as opposed to doing. God bless and enjoy!
