Tweety5 Stars Out Of 5How to Stay Christian in CollegeJanuary 20, 2015TweetyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I purchased this book for a friend at church just before she left for the state university last year. I previewed the book and highlighted many sections for her before wrapping it. She told me that she read it and thought it was great. I purchased this latest one for my niece at Christmas who's just gone away to state university also, knowing that these young ladies will face most, if not all of the challenges described in the text. I certainly hope both of them read and heed it. It is very well written.

A month in to college (4years ago) i was having panic attacks 3 times a day. professors where mocking christianity and making it seem like the most ignorant thing you could do. after growing up in q relationship with Christ, i was in a panic. my soul was grounded, but my mind was a whirlwind. Sunday School TeacherUpstate NYAge: 35-44Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5Truly DisappointedAugust 23, 2023Sunday School TeacherUpstate NYAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I bought this book for my niece who is preparing to head to college, but decided to read through it first to make sure that it was Biblically accurate before passing it onto her. Although it started out good and had a lot of wise advice to offer, I was shocked when the author said that he thought that the idea of there being flames in hell is probably just a metaphor "for the agony of being left to ourselves," (pg. 42) and he most likely agrees with the idea that "no one ends up in hell unless he wants to be left to himself." (pg. 43) Since these statements are in direct opposition to the Bible's teachings about hell (Mark 9:47-48, Luke 16:19-24, John 3:18, Revelation 20:13-15, etc.), I cannot recommend this book and will NOT be passing it along to my niece. The late teen/early 20s years are such an impressionable time in a young person's life that I would not want to misguide my niece by sending her this book (even with a disclaimer expressing my disagreement with this one point in the book). I can't risk the chance that she will be so encouraged by the rest of the book that she might be tempted to think that because the author demonstrates so much insight when it comes to dealing with the many challenges of adjusting and surviving college-life that he might have discovered some alternate truth about hell that the rest of us (i.e. her parents, pastor, Christian relatives, etc.) have missed, and thus be led to believe something that is not Biblically true. This is exactly the kind of subtle plan that satan loves to use to draw young people away from God and the absolute truth of His Word. If he can get us to question the validity of even one teaching of God's Word, then he has his foot in the door of our life and can steadily draw us away from trusting the validity of the rest of God's Word. I was really hoping that this would be a great resource to pass along to all of my nieces and nephews as well as young adults in our church. It is an understatement to say that I am truly disappointed!
