Author Bio

Bestselling author Kathleen Y’Barbo is a multiple Carol Award and RITA nominee of forty-five novels with almost two million copies of her books in print in the US and abroad. A tenth-generation Texan and certified family law paralegal, she has been nominated for a Career Achievement Award as well a Reader’s Choice Award and several Top Picks by Romantic Times magazine. A member of American Christian Fiction Writers, Romance Writers of America, and a former member of the Texas Bar Association Paralegal Division, she is currently a proud military wife and an expatriate Texan cheering on her beloved Texas Aggies from north of the Red River.

Publisher's Weekly

Prolific authors Hanna and Y’Barbo team up for a stage-of-life book aimed at moms whose kids have grown and left home. They milk the empty-nest metaphor for all it’s worth, extending the figure of speech into an organizational scheme (“flight patterns,” “spreading your wings”) for their analysis and advice. The book is also liberally salted with stories (though the authors don’t clarify where the stories are drawn from), clever quotes and passages from Scripture. The result is a sometimes repetitive walk through aspects of the developmental process of letting go of children that reads like a book-length development of an article from a women’s magazine. Some women will appreciate and need this chatty book; others will want a little more psychological heft and a less bubbly tone. This book is aimed at those who are comfortable with an evangelical Christian slant to their understanding of psychology (“If you’re a blood-bought believer of Jesus Christ”). The book is part of the publisher’s new Turning Points series for women in life changes. (Nov.) Copyright 2009 Reed Business Information.

Editorial Reviews

The nine chapters in this book discuss topics such as redefining your life, downsizing, depression, free time, methods of coping, and the sandwich generation. "How to" lists are included in each chapter. A chapter on what not to do is lacking. I highly recommend this excellent, basic, 101 book for empty nesters, and as a preparatory book for those about to become empty nesters. Although written more from a maternal viewpoint, fathers will also glean useful insight.
