Preacher Tony2 Stars Out Of 5July 28, 2010Preacher TonyIn an audiobook, next to the story, THE most important part is the reader ... and this guy was HORRIBLE!!! I THINK the story was awesome ... not real sure as the reader really needs to find a new line of work
Rich1 Stars Out Of 5September 11, 2009RichI've listened to hundreds of audiobooks over the last ten years and thiswas probably the worst I ever endured. I did listen to the entire book, butonly because I thought that the authors' reputations merited me at leastgiving it a chance to get moving as I listened further. But instead I foundmyself far more frustrated than entertained. First of all the reader, KevinKing, was horrible. The characters, despite being from Alabama, had noaccents. They could just as well have been from Columbus, Ohio. But thatwas only minor compared to the way he read the story. Good readers can, andshould, make an audiobook seem like you are listening to a "performance",and their talents add to the mood of a story. This reader, despite hisacting credentials listed on the cover notes, sounded like he was simplyreading a book to a grade school audience. As a result, it came outsounding more like a Scooby-Doo episode than a horror novel. Verydisappointing, and I'd give him less than one "*" on this effort. As for the story itself, it was very hard to follow and quite monotonous. It seemed like a never-ending game of the "good guys" and "bad guys" takingthe weapons from each other. And perhaps it was because of the reader, butI had absolutely no feel for the emotions of any characters, thus noempathy for any of them. I really just wanted the book to end, and that isNOT a good endorsement of any mode of entertainment.Perhaps a different reader could have made it more enjoyable, but in anutshell, Stay away from this House!
Mrs George Drummond5 Stars Out Of 5February 26, 2008Mrs George DrummondWhen they said it was an adrenaline-laced thriller they weren't kidding. It kept me on the edge of my seat & left me wondering if they were going to get out of the house & away from the killers. It was worth every penny I spent. I like Frank Peretti's books they make you think about your life and how you are making a differance.
