Open the cover of this book and enter the world of horses, and those who love them. This collection of over thirty true stories will touch your heart. These tales cover the gamut of children's horses, to horses that have played a major role in the life of adults.

Wanda Dyson remembers the day a horse named Lady somehow opened her front door, and let herself into the house on a mission of mercy. Lady then led Wanda to a badly injured horse.

Shirley Zeller recounts what it was like to grow up on a remote horse ranch in North Dakota. Despite it taking place in the 20th century, her experiences could have been with the cowboys of the 1800's.

Sherri Gallagher shares idyllic days she, and her friend spent on horseback. While munching peanut butter sandwiches and homemade cookies, they explored fields, forests and everything in between, all while atop their horses.

Not all the horses were owned by the people who adored them. Claudia Wolfe St. Clair relates the love her mom had for the great racehorse, Secretariat. She was so enamored with him, that a surprise Christmas visit to see the famous racer filled her with joy. Not only did she see him, Secretariat came right up to her mom, and let her touch him. The thrill she got from that still resonates off the pages today.

Hold your horses, is that right?

Despite knowing very little about horses, these stories were a delight to read. Not only was I entertained, I learned some "horse facts." For instance, I was very surprised to find out the type of horse that lots of Amish people get to pull their buggies. I also smiled when I discovered why, Macaroni "The White House Pony," had to have chicken wire around him.

I really liked this book, despite knowing nothing about horses before I read the first page. If you don't have any experience with horses, you might consider changing that after reading The Horse of My Heart. This will be a treasure to those who already love these four-footed friends. These are all short stories, so they can be read a little bit at a time, or the entire book can be read straight through. Either way, it will be a real pleasure, even more so, since there are no objectionable scenes or language. This book will leave a smile on your face long after it is finished. I highly recommend this 5-star book to anyone who enjoys well-written or true stories--and most certainly to horse lovers.

The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of The Horse of My Heart through Revell Publishing for the purpose of review. All opinions expressed are my own, and I was not required, or influenced, to give anything but an honest appraisal. Despite my receiving the book free, it has not influenced my judgment.

Callie Smith Grant has edited a number of animal books including: The Cat on My Lap, The Cat in the Window, The Dog Next Door, and The Dog at My Feet.

Humans and horses have worked and played together for centuries, and this bond finds its way into everyday life when you have a child who loves horses. My oldest son read horse books, played with model horses, and sat astride his stick horse to ride far and wide in search of . . . who knows what? Best of all, he found and married a horse lover, and, together, they dream of a barn and pasture for that someday horse of their own.

The Horse of My Heart captures this adoration of horses in thirty-two stories, written by a team of horse-lovers and expertly corralled by editor, Callie Smith Grant. Sometimes its the little girl who grows up to find her hearts desire in some horse barn, but just as often its the mum or dad with the longing for a four-legged friend who doubles as transportation.

Along with this selection of stories, readers will find articles profiling famous horses in history along with informational pieces about horse-lore from the origin of the term horsepower to the secret identity of most Amish buggy horses.

The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man, is a quote Ive heard attributed to Ronald Reagan, who may have gotten it from Winston Churchill, but a Google search just muddies the waters with names like Woodrow Wilsons physician and someone named Theodore Parker. At any rate, whoever said the words would appreciate the evidence for their truth provided in the pages of The Horse of My Heart:

Horses are herd animals, and Tash and I had found our herd together. She was my kindred spirit.

Baja was a true blue friend who stuck closer than a brother.

Accounts of horses sleeping outside their owners bedroom window, helping their riders to overcome fears, and bringing out the hero in people are just a small cross section of the inspiring tales offered. Writers share their experiences of relationships of mutual trust, and acknowledge that, as they have trained their horse, their horse is also training them.

This inspiring collection is a sure hit for the horse-lovers on your Christmas list.

I may not own my own heart but I love them and I have 2 that live just down the road from me. I visit them all the time, along with my dog. We have become such friends and they will always have their own stories in my heart.

Horses are an important part of almost every child's life, whether they are the loyal steed for a television or movie hero, or beautiful parts of the landscape as we travel down the road, or even the ponies we visit at the petting zoos.

This book includes a variety of stories, all with these noble animals. some of them are the means to teaching a lesson, or rescue those who saved them first. Each of these stories are true and their owners are quite often as inspiring as the horses. These stories are touching, renewing and show God's love for us by giving us these amazing animals on the earth.

Such beautiful and intelligent animals that I have always admired and so I chose to review this book.

As you begin each short story will touch your heart, and you might want to have the tissues handy. What a blessing in their lives these graceful animals are, well most are!

There is a magical connection between these animals and humans, and when these individual horses enter the humans lives, it seems something wonderful is about to happen. Memories that follow them for the remainder of their lives, and they share them with us in such moving stories.

They seem to arrive and be there with these people when they need them the most, and have a calming and loving effect on them. This book is going to touch in special ways, and you will see Gods hand in this, he made these amazing animals. Once you open that first page and begin your journey, your going to want to keep reading on to the next and then the next.

I received this book through Revell Blogger Book Tours and was not required to give a positive review.

Who hasn't wanted a horse of their own at one point in their lives? I know I did, but I was lucky because my family got a horse, and then another, and another. This was a great read. I loved all the stories people told of how much horses meant to them, and the things God taught them through their horses. I felt like I could identify with the people who were telling their stories, but I think that anyone, even if they dont love horses, would appreciate this book as well. There is something special about horses and I think this book does a good job of portraying that. I would definitely recommend this book. I received this book from Revell in exchange for my review.
