Another big focus in Horizons is hands-on learning using a variety of manipulatives, which can mostly be found around the house: pencils, pipe cleaners, play or real money, thread, a timer, clock, yardstick, etc.
Novice home-educators should not be intimidated by the amount of teacher involvement as it is carefully layed out in the beginning of each year's teacher handbook. The teacher handbook also provides a variety of teaching suggestions and supplemental activities for additional practice.
The concepts covered in Horizons 5 include:
- Addition and Subtraction with 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 Digits
- 3-digit Times 3-digit Multiplication
- Division with a 3-digit Quotient and a Remainder
- Averaging with Remainders

JennyMillmont, PAAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5This is a good, solid curriculm.May 31, 2013JennyMillmont, PAAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have used Horizons Math for several years. This past year my daughters requested to use a certain other curriculum, but before the year was out they wanted to switch back. I will definitely be using Horizons again this year because the curriculum promotes good comprehension and proficiency. Both daughters want to work in the medical field and those skills are crucial to their success. As an additional bonus, the curriculum is lively and engaging. It keeps their attention much better than others I have tried. Thank you Horizons!

Ruth Seifer5 Stars Out Of 5December 26, 2000Ruth SeiferThis math curriculm has been a great help to my 4th grader. Last year,(using a different curriculm) it was like pulling teeth to get math done, but this year, there are no complaints! My student is challenged with each lesson! This curriculm provides fun learning with ease!
