I was almost crying looking at the price of math curriculum for my second-grade daughter. After doing lots and lots of research, I decided to order this one. It is mostly pain-free for kids who don't enjoy math. On some days, she actually asks me if she can do an extra page or two. I love the simple, colorful pages.
I purchased the first Horizons Math book for my daughter in second grade, for the second half of the year. Each page provides about three different exercises, which gives a small variety of concepts on each page. The concepts are repeated every two to three pages, and some are repeated page by page. My daughter would get overwhelmed at some books we've had in the past that offered entire pages of only addition, or subtraction problems, whereas Horizons offers two to three rows of these problems then moves on to another concept. I've paid much more for this book, which has a second book (part 2), than the past books I've used, but I like it, and I think my daughter will benefit from the format in this book. She does not like math, but she seems to like this book much better than the past ones.
