After I finished reading "Hope's Prayers" by Robert D. Pfeiffer, I couldn't stop thinking about God's grace through the deepest of trials. I was reminded of the importance of prayer, and the importance of a godly example, as Hope's choices and challenges were bathed in prayer.

There are several things I loved about the book. I loved to learn of the godly example of Hope's father, and how his responses in the midst of trial influenced her responses later in life. I loved the story of forgiveness and hope, even in the darkest of times. I loved the selfless care of the extended family and their church, as they helped bear the burdens with the Pfeiffers. I love that Hope's voice is not silent, even long after she has left this world. I also love the unwritten sequel to this story: God brought Joanne into this home, as an answer to Rob's stated prayer in the book ("Lord, how am I going to care for these children?").

But what I loved most of all, is that the hero of this story is God. God is faithful even in the most difficult times. God is merciful even in trouble and grief. God is still working on His children, even when the thorns pierce deeply.

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I am an assistant pastor at Maranatha Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan. I am a husband and father of five children.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I wanted my two children who lost their mother to be able to comprehend who she was when they became adults. I also wanted to encourage other believers to walk with God through hard times.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  In addition to the spiritual heritage shared with my children I hope God will use this book to both encourage believers to walk with Him always and also point the lost the Savior.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  Throughout the project I was encouraged about God's grace in our lives and how much He was in control over every detail of our lives. It caused me to love and appreciate God's sovereign control over my life.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I read many books to help write this book. English helps (Strunk & White, William Zinsser), other Christian sad stories (At Least We Were Married - Terry Thomas), and even secular stories about death (Tuesdays with Morrie - Mitch Albom).

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  While this book is written in the second person being addressed to our two children, the spiritual lessons and encouragements throughout the book are accessible to all readers. Every Christian can benefit from reading this book.
