I was happy to learn that Shelley Shepard Gray decided to return to Sugarcreek and write another series. What better way to start out the return to Sugarcreek then with Miriam Zehr! I could not put the book down! Hopeful is a book to delight all who enjoy reading Amish romances. Her characters just pull you into their story and their life. You can't help but love them all!
Miriam stayed true to herself even though she was hurting inside and still had a willingness to help others in need and even helping Junior to try and get to know Mary Kate. I can relate to how she was feeling stating how she felt like a wallflower and thinking that love for her wasn't going to happen. I think sometimes you can see a little bit of yourself in Shelley's characters.
Mary Kate had her problems too! I have to be honest here when I say that Mary Kate put a little suspense into the mix! I was anxious to know what had happened to her. In the end she is able to put her past to rest and allow herself some peace.
It's good that Miriam didn't lose hope! Because no matter the disappointment, pain or hurt she felt, even when she thought it was hopeless, she found in her heart of hearts what she wanted most, love.
It was nice to catch up with what was happening in the lives of Judith, Clara, and Lilly! Even though some of it was sad, it was like returning home for a short visit where you get the chance to catch up with all the happenings that are going on with family and friends. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
You know the feeling you get when you decide to have a dinner date with a good friend? That is how I feel when I pick up one of Shelley Shepard Gray's books. I absolutely love them. I sit down with the book and I don't get up until the book is finished. I just can't help it.
Hopeful is no different. With this particular book I happenend to see myself in both main characters, especially Miriam. Miriam just happens to be attracted to the one man, Junior, who cannot see the forrest for the trees. Miriam loves to cook, has a desire to be a wife with her own family, is a loyal friend, and an overall nice person. She just happens to feel that she is not truly beautiful because of her weight. She has a wonderful heart and you can't help but love her yourself. From page one you are in her corner.
Junior has won her heart a long time ago. He is the oldest sibling, and a father figure to all of them, but especially his little sister. The twist to their story is the fact that Junior likes the local school teacher. Junior is quite the catch. Now that his siblings are growing up and starting their own adventures, he is now ready and willing to find a bride of his own.
Shelley Shepard Gray can take any character and weave a beautiful story of faith and hope. I think you should take a chance with Hopeful, and see for yourself what it is like to become involved in the lives of Miriam and Junior. You will not be disappointed. I can promise you that you will not be wanting their story to end.
You won't be able to put this book down!!! The two main characters in this book are Miriam Zehr and Junior (Albert) Beiler.
Miriam has a wonderful, giving spirit and is liked by everyone. She works as a cook and waitress at the Sugarcreek Inn and, though she is a hard worker, she just can never seem to get to work on time. Miriam has wanted Junior to notice her all her life.
Junior is a hard working man who took on the role of head of household after the death of their parents. There are eight Beiler children of which Junior was child number two. All of his siblings are grown now except the youngest, little eight year old Kaylene.
One day at the restaurant Miriam see's Junior with one of his friends sitting at a table motioning for her. She went to the table with coffee pot in hand. Junior wanted to come by her house and talk to her. Could her dreams be finally coming true? Is the man she longs for finally noticing her?
Hopeful is a book about just that, hope. Miriam's hope for a future with Junior. Junior's hope for...what? Read this wonderfully written book by USA Today bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray to find out. You won't want to put it down!
Hopeful is a great book. It is the first book in the Return to Sugarcreek series. I found it difficult to put the book down. I loved the fact that Miriam continued to be herself even though it hurt. Characters with heartaches and problems worked through them and found hope at the end. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
