DonnasBookshelfTennesseeAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A wonderful start to a new series!August 20, 2014DonnasBookshelfTennesseeAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I thought I knew Amy Clipstons writing after all, I have read (and reviewed) all the novels and novellas in the Kauffman Amish Bakery Series, which includes five full-length novels, two novellas and one YA (young adult) novel thats a lot of writing and Amy does a superb job of keeping the readers interest.
But the Hearts of the Lancaster Grand Hotel series immediately gives the reader the impression that the characters have changed grown and to be prepared for the unexpected!
Is Hannah tempted to change everything because an Englisher shows interest and concern for her, or because he offers her the life shes always wanted will she consider taking a chance on losing her home, her friends, her church, even her children or will she accept an offer of marriage from one who has loved her for many years, yet never had the courage to show it.
If youre curious, read the book dont read the reviews that give too much away read the book! Its a wonderful story, with a few twists to confuse everyone, but an ending that you probably wont be surprised to discover.
Amy Clipston writes Amish fiction as if shes lived the life and knows the feelings of her characters. I enjoyed every moment of this story and I cant wait to read the next installment (thankfully its on my bookshelf, so as soon as I post this review, Ill be pulling it off the shelf and digging in, although this means Ill have trouble putting it down and going to sleep at a decent hour)!
MaureenTSyracuse NYGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Life Changing DecisionJune 16, 2014MaureenTSyracuse NYGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5A Hopeful Heart is just that, and full of painful decisions, and life changing ones. Trey Peterson has suffered the imaginable, losing both his wife and daughter to a horrible accident. He was away at the time on one of his many business trips, this saved his life, but he now wishes it hadn't. He is now dealing with the ramifications of not being there, being spared, oh if only it could have been him?
Trey is now trying to make a dream of his wife's come true, opening an Amish style Bed and Breakfast, he is now search the Lancaster area for the perfect place. While staying at the Lancaster Grand Hotel he has a chance meeting, or I should say surprise meeting with Hannah Glick.
Hannah is suffering from her own loss of her husband, raising her children, and trying to provide for them. Her brother in law has been by her side, Joshua, as he runs their horse business, and tries to gain Hannah's love.
We find Hannah attracted to Trey the forbidden, but liking but not loving Joshua, the safe one. If Hannah follows her heart and chooses Trey, she will be shunned and loose everything she has, her home, her community, and maybe her children. Can't even imagine that kind of decision.
Come along and visit in this Amish Community as we travel along the countryside, and visit in their homes. How would you choose, you will waver, and not see what is in store, and what ever you decide your life is going to change forever, and you know it! The author has placed all of this on your heart, and it is as tough a decision you will ever have to make, which way would you turn, how do you want Hannah to turn? Wow!
I received this book from the publisher Zondervan through Net Galley, and was not required to give a positive review.
Britt98Grand Prairie, TXAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Enjoyable Start to a New SeriesJune 12, 2014Britt98Grand Prairie, TXAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This was the first book that I have read that was written by Amy Clipston. I enjoyed the storyline and found that I read it fairly quickly because I really wanted to know how things would work out.
A Hopeful Heart is full of complex characters, and the author did a good job of creating these interesting people - some I liked and some I didn't. There are nice people, gossips, and judgmental people living in this community. There are rules that the members of the Amish community are expected to follow, and there is the subsequent fall-out when the rules are broken.
I enjoyed the book from start to finish, however, found myself feeling that the relationship between the two characters who end up together to be a bit rushed for me. I really wanted to see a deeper relationship develop over a longer course of time. But I am still happy with the way the book worked out and really look forward to reading the next in the series. I am happy to have found another good Amish author to read!

I live outside Lancaster City and in Lancaster County so I always like to see how much is truly accurate in the Amish books set around here. I really enjoyed this book and I think that it addressed some things that aren't just Amish related but human related like gossip. I am looking forward to seeing how this series plays out and I am looking forward to revisiting the characters.
