I predict this is going to be a very significant resource for the global church.
Once, Jesus was teaching and he told people "my burden is light." In other words, he didn't come to weigh us down and make life harder. It seems like there are always people ready to make Christianity complicated and difficult, and that's why I love this book: it captures the simplicity that Jesus originally offered. You need to read this book!
Where is that straightforward, plain English, theologically sound, assume-nothing little book that you can give to an unbelieving friend, read with the seeker, share with the new believer, work through with the backslider? A book that carefully and pastorally delivers the gospel, framed from the outset as a real encounter with the living, saving, discipling Jesus. A book that clearly and practically explains the breadth of repenting, Christ-following faith from conversion through the steady heavenward walk of willing obedience. Hope Reborn is just such a book. Not only is it exciting that the church has this superb new resource - Tope and Adrian have warmed my heart anew with the wonders of the gospel.

I received this book for free at the Desiring God National Conference. When I returned home and looked through the books I had either received or purchased at the conference, my wife and I agreed this might be a good book to give to her unsaved mother. I decided I should read it before recommending it, so I picked it up one morning and didn't put it down until it was finished. I was so pleased with "Hope Reborn" that we gave it to my mother-in-law that same day and immediately came to Christianbook.com and bought 5 more copies as an evangelistic resource.

This book is brief and readable for the average person. It is not packed with high level theological jargon or Christianese, which makes it a good book to carry around and hand out to unbelievers. The gospel message is clear and accurate and is expressed in a powerful way. I think the authors did a great job of dealing with the costs of following Jesus, which in modern evangelism in the West is often skipped or softened in order not to scare people off. Lastly, I appreciate the way the book seeks to guide new believers into a simple pattern of Bible reading, prayer, and becoming part of a local church, generally setting them up for a strong walk with the Lord.

As you can gather from the title of the book, I would recommend "Hope Reborn" mostly for those who are somewhat humbled, frustrated, down-and-out, have a checkered past, or are basically lacking hope. In keeping with Jesus' pattern of "law to the proud, grace to the humble", I believe this book is geared towards people who doubt whether God could ever love them.

What was your motivation behind this project?  We wanted a book to give to people who are at the brink of becoming a Christian. There are lots of books for enquirers who still have lots of questions on apologetics issues like "Does God exist?" and there are books of discipleship that assumes people are Christians already. As Bob Roberts said of Hope Reborn, "I know of no other resource like it. It takes a person all the way from pre conversion to being filled with the boldness that comes from the Holy Spirit. Many discipleship materials make too many assumptions that are no longer true in the 21st century. Hope Reborn assumes nothing, and presents the Bible’s message in a fresh, engaging, and understandable way."

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  Jack Hayford summed up our desires for this book when he wrote, " Don’t make the mistake of thinking this book is for the new Christian only. You will find your love for the gospel growing afresh as you read its pages.” We have come to realize that even pastors often don't really grasp the gospel and live in the good of it, we all need to be often reminded of what Jesus has done for us. As Ann Voskamp said, "“Sometimes I wonder if we see the Gospel simply as our door into God’s presence instead of regarding the Gospel as our only air in God’s presence. We don’t get over the Gospel, but rather we spend a lifetime allowing God to get the Gospel into us. This book brilliantly does just that. It simply takes you powerfully into what we all desperately need and never stop needing: Hope. The realest, deepest, truest Hope. If you need some Hope — and, honestly, who doesn’t? — I humbly, earnestly recommend these pages to you as real water.”

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  There is no question that re-examining the heart of the Bible's message did us both good as we wrote. A renewed sense of gratefulness, a new confidence in the message, and a new desire to see this message spread were the result.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  We have a broad range of influencers who have shaped us over the years. The Gospel has a broad appeal, and we have tried to write about the things that all true Christians agree on. From Jack Hayford to John Piper, from Terry Virgo to Ed Stetzer, the message of this book would be agreed on by all of them.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  We are all either looking for, or glad to have found, hope. Hope brings zest to life. Hope gives strength to face situations that seem overwhelming. Hope helps people leave behind a negative past and capture the purpose for which they were made. Hope renews, it revitalizes, it remakes; it can even make people feel reborn. This book is all about finding the hope which matters above everything else. Millions before you, over thousands of years, have walked this path and found meaning and purpose to life. A life with purpose is a life with vision, and a life with vision has hope. Real hope is found not in a place, or a plan, but in a person: Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God. This short book is designed to help five different types of people. 1. If you are new to Christianity, it focuses on the central message of the Bible, and includes a practical step-by-step guide on how to become a Christian. 2. If you have already explored the faith, our goal in writing is to help you be sure that you are a Christian, and to have a certain hope that you will live forever with Jesus. 3. If you once had a faith in Jesus, but have drifted away from following Him, these pages will help you find your way back to God. He has already taken a step towards you, and is waiting for you to take a step towards him. 4. Or perhaps you have gone to church all your life. Maybe you have always assumed you are a Christian. But many who appear to be Christians will one day hear Jesus say, “I never knew you; depart from me!” (Matthew 7:23). If you think you are already a Christian, you must carefully consider whether or not this really is true (see 2 Corinthians 13:5). This book will help all of us, authors included, with that process. 5. If you are confident that you are a Christian, we hope that these pages will help you to be able to explain what you believe more clearly to others. We have prayed for you, that Jesus himself will meet with you as you read this book.
