Publisher's Description

Tracy Campbell never wanted to leave Hope Harbor, Oregon, or the idyllic three-generation cranberry farm where she grew up. But life--and love--altered her plans. When tragedy strikes and changes her plans yet again, she finds herself back in her hometown with a floundering farm to run and a heartbreaking secret. Romance is not on her agenda. Nor is it on Michael Hunter's. The visitor from Chicago has daunting secrets of his own. But when Tracy recruits him to help save a struggling charitable organization, the winds of change begin to sweep through Hope Harbor, bringing healing, hope, and love to countless lives--including their own.

Fan favorite Irene Hannon brings a whole new cast of characters to life in a charming Oregon seaside village. Emotional and heartwarming, this story invites readers to come home to Hope Harbor, where love and hope bloom--and hearts heal.

This review was written for Hope Harbor: A Novel.
Hope Harbor is the first book in the Hope Harbor series. This is a different genre for Irene Hannon. For those readers who are familiar with this author, she is known for fast paced thrillers, but Hope Harbor is more about romance, forgiveness and restoring relationships. It contains very little mystery and no suspense. But she makes God the centers of the main characters lives.

After her husband's death several years before, Tracy Campbell moved back home and begins work keep the family cranberry farm going. Feeling guilty about her husband's death, she being to put together the helping hands project for people in the community.

Michael Hunter has come back to Hope Harbor to fulfill a promise to his late wife. What he doesn't expect to find is a new purpose for is life as well as a new love.

I really enjoyed watching the relationship between Michael and Tracy develop. Tracy feeling guilt over he husband's death, and Michael feeling guilty about being too busy with his growing career to take care of his marriage. Each feels that they have no business beginning a new relationship with anyone, and each fights hard to keep their growing attraction in check, until God begins to work in their hearts so that they can begin to heal.

My favorite character was Anna Williams. When her husband dies unexpectedly, she and her son have an argument that results in them not speaking. So for twenty years she become a recluse, shutting out everyone out of her life. Her only company is her cat. But God begins to orchestrate a series of events that slowly begin to pull Anna out of her self-imposed isolation and back into society again.

Anna, in my opinion, was the character that people could relate to the most. Given the right circumstances, I believe anyone can begin to think that life would be easier if we didn't have deal with people. Most of us don't go to the extreme that Anna did, but I can understand how easy it would be to do so.

Honestly this type of book is not one of my favorites, yes it is predictable, but what made the story in immensely interesting was how the story played out. The characters and their backstories, their strengths and weakness are things that make them very real to the reader. I'm really glad I read it instead of passing it up. I would definitely would recommend this book.

Tracy Campbell and Michael Hunter have more in common than they realize- both are still grieving the loss of their respective spouse's, feel guilt at their self-perceived responsibility for their deaths, and are trying to find a way to put the past behind them and move on. Their chance meeting when Michael almost runs over Tracy riding on her bicycle when he arrives in Hope Harbor begins a tentative friendship. Their friendship expands to Michael helping Tracy not only on her family's cranberry farm but also to him using his business acumen as a non-profit business executive to help a local charity that Tracy is deeply involved with thrive. In time, a romance develops and both have hopes for the future if they can just get beyond their pasts.

Hope Harbor is a heartwarming tale showcasing the power of possibilities. The cast of characters in this small town draw the reader into the story making her feel a part of this dear community! Hannon delivers healthy doses of forgiveness, introspection, humor, and romance making this an enjoyable read!

I have times that I have trouble concentrating. When this happens I read romance books. In my opinion you don't even have to think when reading this genre. I'm definitely not a fan. I have read this author's suspense books and enjoy them. This book was sooooo predictable and really drug on and on. Conversations were very repetative. It was not one of Irene Hannons better reads. Just my opinion.

Author Irene Hannon has written a delightful, heart-tugging story set in the fictional coastal town of Hope Harbor, Oregon. With realistic characters who carry burdens of grief and guilt, wonderful descriptions of this picturesque town, and a message of hope and love, this story held me captivated until the end. I happily give Hope Harbor FIVE STARS, and it will remain on my "keeper shelf."

Irene Hannon is a new author to me. This book won't be the last I read of hers, that is for sure. "Hope Harbor" is a contemporary romance, full of tension and excitement. I loved every single thing about it, especially the fact that it is a clean romance novel. (Thank you, Irene, for that!!)

I loved learning of Michael and Tracy's stories, and those of the other Hope Harbor residents. It is a love story, yes, but also holds stories of deep forgiveness. I am fairly sure this is going to be a series and I certainly hope so, because I am hooked and I want more!!!
