My boys, ages 4 & 6, are enjoying this product. The DVD and workbook provide stimulating repetition. It is a little pricy for what you get, but hopefully it will have great results.

Great product! I ordered this just a couple weeks ago & my 4 yr. old has already read her first book!!! She loves it, it's fun to do & follow! The parent guide offers an easy to follow, short lesson plan to repeat each day! I have been telling everyone I know with small children to buy this product!

It's a good program, but not complete. You still have to have extra resources for reinforcement. I used Explode the Code Book 1 and McRuffy Handwriting K to try to round out the program. It's pretty good but all in all I would recommend McRuffy Dynamic Phonics & Reading K over's the whole package and you don't have to supplement with anything. Hooked on Phonics teaches reading by word families (for example, nothing but -ig words in one lesson...wig, pig, dig, fig, etc.) and I'm not sure I like that.

Wonderful, underrated, underappreciated program. My 5 year old son loves it. The only reason why I deducted half a star is because the CD-ROM isn't self-paced like the Pre-K one was. My son finds this frustrating. With the K CD-ROM, you have to finish a letter before you can move on. This can be frustrating for a child who catches on quickly and is ready to move on. He loved playing the CD-ROM when we were doing the Pre-K level, but he rarely reaches for this K one. Also, the characters aren't quite the same, it's a little dated and behind the rest of the program. It's a very important component of the program, and it needs to be updated. There's no excuse for it not to be. Anyway, couple this program with the 3 early Explode the Code books (Get Ready, Get Set, Go for the Code) and possibly Handwriting Without Tears' Letters and Numbers for me, and you'll have a great phonics/writing program for K. We use this in conjunction with Horizons Math K, and my son is just loving kindergarten. Thanks CBD!
